Devon has some of the best accommodation in the country and all across the region you’ll find plenty of properties, from huge corporate hotels, serviced apartments, chalets and more. More recently, a popular choice has been boutique hotel stays, so we thought we would introduce you to some of our favourites.
Boutique hotels are one of the newer types of hotel, they started gaining popularity in the 1980s. Typically, a boutique hotel is a small hotel which has between 10 and 100 rooms, they’re small enough to feel personal, yet you get all the mod cons you would expect from a hotel.
Staying in a boutique hotel is a great way to get to know the individual areas in Devon while getting a fun and unique place to call your base. Many of Devon’s boutique hotels have themed suites and eclectic décor, which you don’t always get with a large corporate hotel.

Visitors to Plymouth looking for a stylish and relaxing break at a boutique hotel should take a look at Pentillie Castle. You’ll find nine luxurious en-suite rooms set in a beautiful stately home on the banks of the River Tamar. It is a good destination for anyone wanting to explore the wider area and of course, for anyone who has an interest in history, guests are welcome to explore the 55 acre gardens designed by Humphry Repton, the mausoleum and the bathing hut that are on site. During the day while exploring you can head to the National Marine Aquarium one of the largest aquariums in the UK and home to the Ocean Conservation Charity. The exhibitions are all geared around learning more about the local marine population as well as conservation. Also nearby is Plymouth Gin which is the perfect place for gin fans. The building dates back to 1431 and the distillery is the oldest working one in England, so anyone wanting to find out more about their favourite tipple and sample a few flavours won’t want to miss out on this.
