The sun is starting to be a more regular fixture and the flowers are starting to bloom, now is the perfect time to start exploring Devon’s green spaces.
There are loads of parks and gardens in the region for you to enjoy, so we’ve pulled out a selection of them that should be added to your itinerary!

If you’re out near the border, you’ll want to visit Pentillie Castle, especially the gardens which stretch over 55 acres around the castle and along the banks of the River Tamar. The gardens are beautifully kept all year around, but not over worked giving you a much more natural feel to other gardens. Once you’ve had a wander around the gardens, you could continue your outdoor adventures with Tree Surfers, which is just a short journey away in Tavistock. A great place to go for those that love a bit of adventure, Tree Surfers is the ideal place to work off any extra energy and gives you the chance to take on zip lines, walkways and Tarzan swings among other activities. Stop off at Bistrot Pierre for a bite to eat in the centre of Plymouth’s Royal William Yard for some exquisite menus and the chance to explore the wonderful city of Plymouth. The adults in your party will also love a chance to go to Plymouth Gin and try some of the different varieties.

In Torrington you’ll find RHS Garden Rosemoor, an enchanting garden nestled in the Torridge Valley which you might know as being the home for Tarka the Otter. This is a garden that is worth multiple visits as it is rich in variety during every season and includes the largest rose garden in the south west, as well as a stunning hot garden and surrounding woodland. Over the course of the year, they hold over 100 events, so you’ll always find something to do when you’re in the area. While you’re in the region, take a visit to Dartington Crystal. This fascinating attraction showcases 50 years of history with Dartington and gives you the chance to make your own glass objects. As there is so much to see and do in this region of Devon, you might want to stay a while, if that’s the case there are plenty of wonderful accommodation options for you, including Smytham Holiday Park where you can continue the outdoor theme as it is set in 33 acres of parkland! Alternatively, the Royal Hotel in Bideford is an historic building with a unique atmosphere and character. The hotel is situated on the Tarka Trail, giving you ample chance to explore more of Devon’s beautiful countryside.

If being outside and having a bit of an adventure is more your style, you don’t have to worry, Devon is also full of interesting woodland attractions, such as Haldon Forest Park. Whether you’re looking for a gentle stroll or an exhilarating mountain biking experience, this is the place to go. There are a wide range of walking and cycling trails all through the middle of woodland and it’s just fifteen minutes from Exeter! Nearby you’ll find Go Ape! Which is one of Devon’s more popular attractions and is perfect for families, groups and team building days.
