Spending just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories with children can make a difference to their development and wellbeing.

To celebrate World Book Day (7 March 2019) many National Trust places will be holding special events for little and big bookworms alike. Between 9th & 10th  March, 15 places will be running World Book Day events right across the South West.

Visitors will be able to exchange their £1 book token for an exciting new read, set off on an adventure with our Ten Little Bookworms Children’s Trail, or take part in one of the other exciting book themed events.

We couldn't help celebrate World Book Day without something new to read, all of our places involved in World Book Day will be stocking some of this year’s special titles. Simply hand over the £1 token, all children will be given at school or nursery, and pick one of the World Book Day Books.

Will it be Cadpig or Claude for animal lovers? Underwater with the Bad Mermaids? Or off on an epic Percy Jackson adventure.

At A La Ronde in Devon the whole team will be getting into character from the cat in the hat, Doctor Doolittle and May Poppins all to help launch their new second hand book shop just in time for World Book Day.

At Arlington Court in North Devon visitors will be encouraged to buy a second hand wrapped book for £1 from a ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ display encouraging families to buy books, just based on a few words

Many National Trust places also have second hand bookshops, where you can browse to your heart’s content while dropping off some of your own preloved books.  All the funds raised at National Trust second hand bookshops stays at that property and is spent on vital conservation work that otherwise might not be possible. Last year, £250,000 was raised across the South West in this way.
