We all know that camping is a great way to return to nature and that it is a staple of the traditional British holiday. In Devon we’re lucky to have a whole host of campsites and holiday parks for you to choose from and you even get the choice between countryside retreats or a site right on the beach. For the beach bums among you, waking up to the sound of waves crashing and enjoying your first cuppa of the day overlooking the coast is pure heaven. Which is why we thought we’d introduce you to some of Devon’s beach campsites and holiday parks, so you too can live that dream.

If you’re not convinced a full beach holiday is your bag, but you do like the idea of having the best of both worlds, make sure to book a spot at Oakdown Touring and Holiday Caravan Park. Not only do they offer camping, but also glamping opportunities and are on the doorstep of the fabulous Jurassic Coast. If you want a bit of a rural hide away to be included in your camping trip, this place is a must, placing you both on the coast and in the countryside and East Devon has some truly spectacular options when it comes to both. If you want to spend some time out and about enjoying the local attractions, the Donkey Sanctuary is only a stone’s throw away and provides endless fun for families.

While every area of Devon has a spectacular coastline, the North of Devon has some truly amazing sights. The Sandaway Beach Holiday Park is set on the edge of a cliff in Ilfracombe giving you some amazing sea views and even a private beach. There are a whole host of things to keep you entertained when staying at the park, but if you did fancy a trip out for the day, Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle is a must visit.

In the south of the county, Hazelwood Holiday Park is set in 38 acres of award-winning landscape and it’s just a few minutes’ walk to Dawlish Warren Beach Resort and nature reserve. Onsite facilities include evening entertainment and food services, a take away, play park and outdoor swimming pool. Nearby attractions include Powderham Castle and World of Country Life.

Only a short drive from the M5, you’ll find Devon Valley Holiday Park. It’s in Shaldon, one of Devon’s most attractive destinations, while it isn’t exactly beachside, this park is set on the water’s edge and gives you some stunning views out across the River Teign and Dartmoor. Plus, you’re close to the seaside towns of Torquay and Teignmouth if you did feel the need to have some sand between your toes. You’re also close enough to be able to enjoy a day out at the Babbacombe Cliff Railway and the Model Village, both of which can be found on the outskirts of Torquay and offer some amazing family friendly activities.

If you’ve got your own caravan and would rather find a site to rent a pitch rather than a whole holiday home, take a look at Slapton Sands Camping and Caravanning Club Site, the site is within walking distance of the beach and many of the pitches have a sea view. There are excellent family friendly conveniences available too as well as there being plenty of attractions nearby for you to enjoy, from the Woodlands Family Theme Park for the kids and Salcombe Distilling Co for the parents.

As if those options weren’t enough, we have one more for you, Ladram Bay Holiday Park has everything you could want from a family seaside holiday. The site has amazing facilities, including swimming pools, splash zones and other activities like climbing walls and adventure golf. You’ll find the site between Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton right on the Jurassic Coast giving you some incredible views out to sea. The location of this particular site means that you have the best of both worlds when it comes to attractions and activities during the day, not only are you along the Jurassic Coast where you can get involved with fossil hunting and rock pooling or head to a larger attraction like Crealy Adventure Park and Resort full of rides and seasonal events.
