Categories: Visitor News
Visitor attraction and campsite River Dart Country Park in Ashburton, Devon have broken the world record for the longest line of carved pumpkins.
The team smashed the current world record with 4,164 carved pumpkins. The pumpkins were then placed in a continuous line and all touching as part of world record guidelines. The previous record stood at 3,975 and was achieved by the City of Richland Center in Wisconsin, USA, on 30 October 2016.
Taking place during October half term, the River Dart team welcomed volunteers from groups, clubs and charities to join in and help achieve the Halloween themed record.
The line of pumpkins was counted and measured by four independent witnesses with the whole process being filmed and photographed for evidence and verification on Friday November 1st 2019.
After the count up process had taken place, all pumpkin waste was donated to a nearby farm for animal feed and composting.
Roger Sell, General Manager said: “We are incredibly happy that the project managed to bring the local community together to achieve such a unique world record. The carving of over 4,000 pumpkins during a two-week period proved testing but it was also very rewarding. Once the pumpkins had been lined up and officially counted, they were all lit up and it was a real spectacle during our fireworks event. It looked incredible; this is certainly an autumn that we’ll never forget!”
