If the colder weather is getting to you already, then why not think about booking a cheeky summer get away for next year? There are few things in life that are as wonderful as pulling back your curtains and starting your day with a deep breath of sea air and seeing the sun reflecting off the waves. If you agree, here are a few suggestions of coastal places to stay in Devon.
We all know that Devon is full of beautiful beaches and with its two coastlines, it can be difficult to know where to stay. We’ve pulled together a selection of accommodation providers who offer a sea view from across the county, just to make your daydreaming for next summer that little bit easier.
We’ll start in North Devon, as much of the coast falls into an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so for stunning sea views, this is a great place to base yourself.
If you like your watersports, start your search in Westward Ho!, this charming coastal village has the perfect conditions for surfing, paddle boarding and more and plenty of the accommodation options are happy for you to store your equipment.
Golden Bay Holiday Village is in the heart of Westward Ho! and gives you direct access to the Blue Flag award winning beach. There are a number of accommodation options available on site, plus plenty of great facilities for guests to use.
Also in Westward Ho! is Braddicks Holiday Centre. This award winning holiday park is set alongside the beach and also gives you the option to explore beautiful countryside as well as making a great break for anyone wanting an adventure holiday.

Overlooking the bay with great views out across Lundy Island, you’ll find Seafield Holiday Park. The onsite entertainment complex offers a huge variety of things to do for kids and adults alike.
Another popular resort in the north of Devon is Ilfracombe. Why not stay at Sandaway Beach Holiday Park? Sat on the edge of a cliff, this park has incredible views of the ocean and its own private beach. Plus, you’re just a stone’s throw from places like Combe Martin and Lynton and Lynmouth, giving you plenty to see and do during your stay.

Speaking of Combe Martin, there are a number of places to stay in this little town with great access to the beach. One option is Combe Martin Beach Holiday Park or alternatively, Longlands will give you all the luxury of a boutique hotel but with the same experience of sleeping under canvas. Glamping is a great option for anyone who likes the idea of camping but would rather have their home comforts, so choosing a glamping site near the sea would give you the best of both worlds.
Popular with families and with plenty of places with sea views is Woolacombe, for a holiday park experience with a difference, try Twitchen House, hidden in a wooded valley with a footpath down to the beach, there is even an historic Edwardian manor house on site. If you’d rather book yourself into a hotel, take a look at Hartland Quay Hotel which can be found in nearby Bideford. It’s sat right on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean, so you’re pretty much guaranteed a sea view when you stay here.

Wondering about what you can do during your stay in North Devon? There are plenty of places to explore, if you’re into water sports you’ll find plenty of organisations offering sessions and guided tours around the water. Otherwise, take a trip to Skern Lodge where the action is never ending or for the whole family, head to the Big Sheep or Watermouth Family Theme Park. Many of the accommodation we’ve listed is self-catering, so if you want to grab a bite to eat while in the region, take a look at the menus offered by the Waterfront Inn or The Pier House.
When it comes to sea views, you aren’t limited to just the north of Devon. South of the county, particularly in the English Riviera, you’ll have plenty of choice. Torquay is an incredibly popular destination for families so unsurprisingly you’ll find lots of accommodation options available to you.
The Haytor Hotel is set in an elegant Victorian villa and is set in the seafront, while the Imperial Hotel has a cliff top location giving you views out across the sea. For a hotel with a seaview and a spa so you can really pamper yourself, take a look at the Headland Hotel and Spa.

Similarly, in nearby Paignton, you’ll find The Palace Hotel and Spa directly opposite the seafront and just a short journey to the town centre.
Of course, this is just a small selection of what is on offer in the Torbay region, there are so many things to see and do you’ll find something to suit you! Take a look at our English Riviera section for more! If you’re after somewhere a little more compact but still with plenty to keep you entertained, consider the Langstone Cliff hotel in Dawlish. Not only do you have access to several beaches, but there is also nearby Teignmouth and Torquay and who doesn’t want to watch the black swans leisurely float through the town centre?
It isn’t all about the Torbay though, south Devon is home to several places which offer some amazing views of the ocean. Head to the charming town of Kingsbridge on the Salcombe Estuary where you’ll find a number of accommodation options.

For those of you who like the idea of staying in a hotel, Thurlstone Hotel is a luxury four star hotel set along the coast. Or if you want a more home from home feel to your holiday, there are a number of holiday cottages at Ocean Reach. These are a must for anyone who loves nature, the surrounding landscape is incredible!
If you’re a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club, their Slapton Sands site in Kingsbridge has very impressive views and you get the best of both worlds – country and coast!
You don’t have to sacrifice on being near the city to have sea views either. Plymouth is known as Britain’s Ocean City for a reason and being a city, you’re never short of top attractions to compliment your stay. Bovisand Beachside Holiday Park is hidden away in the countryside, but is close enough for you to be able to enjoy the city and can be found right on the beach. Also located in the Plymouth area is the Flete Estate, a selection of self-catering holiday cottages along the Erme Estuary, they are a great choice for those bringing their dogs with them!
