From Monday 30th September until Friday 4th October House of Marbles in Bovey Tracey ran a series of Coffee Mornings to raise money for their national charity of the year Motor Neurone Disease Association. Over £642.80 was raised in total, which goes to the MND Association.
The event was a traditional coffee morning with an extra special free jewellery cleaning service for all, using products by Connoisseur and helping to bring a bit of sparkle to an otherwise difficult subject: Helping to support those with MND, which is a life-limiting illness effecting over 5,000 people in the UK each year.
Homemade cakes were made by staff at House of Marbles as well as local suppliers Country Kitchen (Torquay) and RD Johns Foodservice (Newton Abbot), with hot drinks served in a range of crockery available at the House of Marbles’ shop in Bovey Tracey. Raffle prizes donated by House of Marbles, Big Bakes (Torquay) and Mandarin Creative (Plymouth) helped to raise even more vital funds.
MND Association use the money raised to support those in the local area with the condition, and towards much-needed research into treatments for the condition. Julia Beales, a fundraiser at MND Association, said of the event: “The money raised will help us to provide care and support for people affected by MND, not just those living with the disease but their families and carers too. It will also fund much needed research into the disease, helping us to better understand MND, hopefully leading to new treatments and ultimately one day a cure”.
Motor neurone disease is a rapidly - progressing disease which affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, impacting the ability to control movement.
