It’s time for another update from our roving reporter, Dilys who has been rating all the best dog friendly places to be found in Devon.
This time, Dilys and her friends made the most of the dry weather by taking a stroll around the Occombe Valley.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the area, Occombe Woods and the Valley trail can be found on the outskirts of Torquay, just between Occombe Valley Road and Sandringham Drive and with the number of places you can pick up the route, makes for a new and exciting adventure every time! What’s more, it is one of the best rated places for dog walks in Devon!

Occombe Woods is an ancient woodland that is managed by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust and is now a designated local nature reserve. It has several routes with varying degrees of steepness, making it easily accessible for people (and dogs!) of all abilities. The shaded nature of the woodland make it especially ideal for visiting in the summer as you’re able to get a decent walk without being too exposed to the sun and there is even a little stream that can be found on some of the routes which is perfect for cooling off. Well… Dilys and the other dogs she meets around the woods might think so, the owners, not so much!

dilysAs it was a bit nippy during her visit, Dilys opted to go for warmth and style with her new fleece from equafleece which was made right here in Devon! As you can see, she loved that as much as her adventure in Occombe Valley and has her paws crossed for a long four legged one for Christmas!

Whether you choose to wear an extra layer or not, Occombe Valley and the woodland are a great place to go for a walk this autumn. With the number of different trails, you can easily keep returning without getting bored. It’s also a great all weather trail and visiting during the different seasons will give you plenty of chances to see the trees change, the flowers bloom and the wildlife that lives there. Dilys didn’t see any other creatures during her visit, but she did find plenty of mushrooms and conkers!

Occombe Valley gets a good five barks out of five.
