Best of Devon – Top Things to do for Couples
With rolling countryside, historic attractions and beautiful beaches, it comes as no surprise that many couples choose Devon for a romantic getaway. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing break or an action-packed weekend, there’s something for everyone.
To celebrate all that this stunning region has to offer, Parkdean Resorts has teamed up with xameliax, a top UK lifestyle blogger, to help unearth some of the best things to see and do in North Devon. Here are some of the amazing places Amelia and her boyfriend Chris explored.
For a date-day with a difference, Quince Honey Farm is a must. This all-weather attraction is set across over 40 acres, and is home to over 1,500 beehives. Become a true bee expert on one of the daily guided tours, where you’ll learn all about the whole honey process, from hive to jar.
For something a little more hands-on, you can even become a beekeeper yourself, in a 30-minute taster session. Put on the protective gear and work with the professionals, tending to the bees and their hives, before sampling some of the honey produced on the farm. If you like it, you can buy a jar or two to take home with you too!
Built in 1823, Arlington Court is a great day out for inquisitive minds. This country house, which has been held by the Chichester family for over 500 years, is home to an array of treasures. From shells and model ships, to stables and cosy rooms, enjoy a fascinating journey through the building's interesting past.
Once you’ve explored the interior, head outside for a romantic stroll through the Victorian Garden. With colourful flower beds, a Kitchen Garden packed with fruit and vegetables and attractive fountains, it certainly won’t disappoint.
Did you know that Devon is a world-class surfing destination? With an array of award-winning beaches to enjoy, why not grab a wetsuit and try your hand at this fantastic sport? Whether you’re an amateur or a pro, this activity is well worth a try.
If you’re visiting North Devon, then Surf South West in Croyde is a great place to start. Whether you’re looking for a quick half day session or a full weekend course, it’s a fun and challenging experience for competitive couples.
The Big Sheep and The Big Sheep Microbrewery
Usually praised as a great family attraction, the Big Sheep is perfect for couples too. Set in 40 acres of beautiful parkland, The Big Sheep is guaranteed to provide a fun day out for all ages, come rain or shine. If you’re an adrenaline-fuelled couple, then you’re in luck, as The Big Sheep is home to North Devon’s biggest, highest and fastest rollercoaster.
Once you’ve had a bit of fun, head over to The Big Sheep Microbrewery, where hundreds of gallons of local ale are brewed each week. If ale isn’t your tipple of choice, then the on-site gin distillery, run by Atlantic Spirit, makes for a tasty alternative.
Braunton Village
North Devon is home to an array of quaint and charming villages, and Braunton is by far one of the most picturesque. Nestled between the town of Barnstaple and the stunning coastline, there's an abundance of things to see and do.
Wander hand in hand through the winding streets, where you'll find independent boutiques, delis and more. Explore the area’s agricultural, maritime and wartime past at The Museum and Information Centre where there's even a working model on the railway station as it was in the 1950s.
