Devon is a wonderfully diverse county with plenty to please, whatever your taste or budget. If you’ve never visited before, here are seven reasons to head to the region during the year.

Devon is well known for its coastline, the beaches in North Devon are particularly beautiful and are a haven for surfers and beach bums alike. At the coast you’ll find everything from the dramatic cliffs of the Jurassic Coast to the continental style of the English Riviera and the sprawling golden sands of the north of the county. Many of Devon’s beaches are award-winning, so whether you’re visiting during the summer months or prefer the quieter seasons, you’ll be sure to find a beach worth writing home about.

Devon has more AONBs (or areas of natural beauty for the likes of you and me) than you can shake a stick at, pretty much everywhere you go in the region you’ll find an area that has been designated for either its beauty or its scientific or ecological interest. These areas make for some amazing photographs.
With the wonderous coastline and the ample fields, it’s of no surprise that Devon has some amazing locally produced foods. All year around you’ll find fresh, high quality food in the region’s restaurants, eateries and at Farmers’ Markets and in the summer there are regular Food Festivals.

Devon is full of historic ruins, castles, stately homes and museums for you to enjoy. There are also a number of heritage trails and spots all across Dartmoor where evidence of past residents can be seen.
We don’t care what they say over the border, the best cream tea can be found in Devon. That’s it.

It deserves a bullet point all to its self. Dartmoor is one of the most beautiful national parks in the country, its perfect for hiking, picnicking and wildlife spotting. The park has plenty of hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation for you to stay in and there are wild ponies everywhere for you to gaze at!

Devon is home to loads of quaint market towns which all have their own charms and quirks, like Totnes and Barnstaple among others, but the cities are a real hive of activity, history and culture. Plymouth and Exeter both have amazing cultural experiences and are very pretty to boot!
