The 25, a six-bedroomed B&B in Torquay has been named the best in the world in the Traveller’s Choice 2019 Awards organised by TripAdvisor.
They’re one of just five British bed and breakfasts that made the top ten. It is the only UK business to make it to world number one in the awards this year, no UK accommodation managed it last year.
Speaking to the national press, Andy and Julian Banner-Price, who run The 25, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to hear that The 25 has been named as the best B&B in the world. We love creating special and memorable experiences for our guests and receiving their excellent reviews makes our hard work truly rewarding.”
Andy and Julien go out of their way to make sure their guests have the best experience when they stay at their B&B. You’ll find everything: comfy beds, hi-tech gadgets and power showers, but there are also little extras that make guests really feel at home. Personal greetings on arrival, handwritten notes and home-made baked goods waiting for you all helped them get the prestigious prize.
According to Andy, they received the news of their win at the end of a rather trying redecorating session as they prepared for the next holiday season.
Talking about the awards, Hayley Coleman from TripAdvisor, said: “Many hospitality awards select winners with a panel of judges, but the Traveller’s Choice Awards are different; they are based on feedback from actual guests over the past year. The B&B has long held its status as a British institution, so it’s great to see the UK recognised worldwide for doing the B&B best.”
You might not think it, but it was another famous B&B that inspired the pair to move to the English Riviera and set up their own B&B there after running a successful hotel in Wales. The pair told The Guardian newspaper that they had always enjoyed Fawlty Towers and relished the idea of showing visitors that English seaside B&Bs were not all about paper thin walls and strict curfews.
Want to stay at The 25? You’ll find them at 25 Avenue Road, Torquay just a few minutes’ walk from the water front.
