Mattel and partners TMA International, are pleased to announce that the World Scrabble Championships 2018 will take place at the English Riviera in Torquay, England.
The World Scrabble Championships 2018 and World Junior Scrabble Championships 2018 will take place at The Riviera International Conference Centre (ERC) – located in the heart of the English Riviera – between Saturday October 20th and Sunday October 28th, 2018.
Celebrating its 70th year, the week-long festival of Scrabble will be overseen by experienced tournament director Amy Byrne and her team, and will commence with the World Junior Scrabble Championships, open to players under the age of 21 followed by the World Scrabble Championships, open to all.
Scrabble players from across the globe will battle it out across the week, in a bid to reach the top 8. The top 8 will play in a knockout Saturday featuring Quarter and Semi-finals finishing on Sunday with a 5 round Scrabble Final. The winner will be crowned World Scrabble Champion 2018 and take away their share of the $20,000 prize pool.
Alongside the main championships mini events and family challenges will be held throughout the week, including Scrabble in various languages.
