Devon Mead sales rise thanks to Game of Thrones
Experts have said that the 30% rise in sales of Mead, a traditional west country drink made from combining honey and water, is all down to the banquet scenes in Game of Thrones and so-called Hipsters.
Mead is supposedly the first ever alcoholic drink as it dates back to 9,000 BC and is produced in the West Country. It can range from 3.5% to 20% alcohol and is recommended to be consumed in small amounts.
Mead sales have been growing consistently over the last five years and are now at 30%. There are several mead producers in Devon that are enjoying the drink’s resurgence, you can visit a range of distilleries when in the region and learn about producing all manner of local drinks from ciders and ales to gin and more.
