24th September 2018
Categories: Visitor News
The West End Food Fayre returns to Frankfort Gate for the third year running on Saturday 6 October.
The event, held in conjunction with Plymouth Market, offers a fun day out for the whole family in Plymouth city centre’s vibrant West End, complete with stalls, cookery demonstrations, children’s activities, live music and a gin bar.
During the day, watch food demonstrations and learn new techniques from Michelin-starred chef, Peter Gorton; City College Plymouth; pastry specialists Sweet Harmony; and Bar Matt, who will be whipping up cocktails for the crowds.
Children will be able to meet Elmer the Elephant ahead of Elmer’s Big Parade, run by St Luke’s Hospice - which arrives in the city next summer - and take part in his cupcake decorating competition.
A huge range of traders including The Greedy Fox, Ladybird Bakery, Smeaton’s Smokehouse and Janner Jams will offer a variety of delicious street food and treats to take away. Quirky Teas will also be selling cream teas, coffee and cake throughout the day.
Steve Hughes, chief executive of the Plymouth City Centre Company, which represents the interests of city centre businesses, said: “We are delighted to be able to expand the food fayre which just gets better every year.
“Lots of new food businesses have opened up recently, so it’s a great opportunity for people to come and have a day out and see what’s on offer.”
The city centre’s West End is fast becoming a foodie hotspot, with Plymouth Market home to an impressive range of eateries, from the freshly cooked Asian dishes of @Kitchen, Taste of Thailand and Tea & Bun, to sourdough pizza joint Knead Pizza, slider specialists Tilt, vegan taco creators No Whey Tacos and many more cafes and bakeries.
The surrounding streets are also home to a number of thriving independent restaurants, serving up quality, authentic dishes from cuisines around the world, from traditional English to Greek, Italian, Portuguese and Polish to Caribbean.
The West End Food Fayre takes place from 10am to 6pm and is easy to get to, close to the main city centre bus routes and car parks. Parking is available at the nearby Western Approach and Toys ‘R’ Us car parks, costing just £1 an hour, or £5 for the day.
