Top five rainy-day ideas for when in Devon
With autumn approaching, it is likely that there might be a bit of rain on the horizon, but that doesn’t mean you should put off your trip to Devon, there are plenty of indoor activities to keep you occupied.
- Spend a day at Crealy Adventure Park
Crealy Great Adventure Park and Resort is a multi-award-winning theme park with over 60 rides and attractions that caters for the whole family. There is accommodation on site if you wanted to combine a couple of things on your trip, but Alpine Park Cottages, a complex of 11 self-catering holiday cottages is nearby for a few home comforts, as is the Castle Brake Holiday Park, which is just a short drive from the Jurassic Coast and the idyllic village of Woodbury. Nearby is also the Leisure and Spa at the Devon Hotel for the parents to relax.
- Visit the Paint Hub.
In the sea side resort of Dawlish, you’ll find the Paint Hub, where you can paint, stamp and stencil your own piece of pottery, perfect for a more unique day out. World of Country Life is also nearby and has indoor and outdoor amusement for you to enjoy while waiting for the weather to let up. Welcome Family Holiday Park is a great place to stay over, it’s just a few moments from Dawlish Warren Beach and has several indoor pools and other attractions on site.
- Go to Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle
There are plenty of indoor and outdoor themed attractions at Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle including rides, displays and the castle where you can step back into the past. Plus, there are loads of water themed rides, so if it’s raining, you won’t worry too much about getting wet. Nearby is Sandaway Beach Holiday Park offering amazing sea views and a range of accommodation for you to choose from. You’re also not far from the Carlton Hotel in the centre of Ilfracombe which is handy for visiting a host of local attractions. There are lots of places in Ilfracombe for you to grab some food if you’re feeling peckish, you aren’t all that far from the Beachside Grill at Saunton Sands Hotel, where you’ll find an extensive menu and some amazing views of the award-winning Saunton Sands beach.
- Spend the day shopping
When the weather is misbehaving you want to stay inside as much as possible, so why not head to a shopping centre like the one at Trago Mills, where you can shop and take advantage of the leisure facilities. Alternatively, you can go to Princesshay in Exeter, where you can also visit the city’s main attractions. Visiting Trago Mills puts you in the ideal place for experiencing glamping at Yurtcamp Devon. Glampsites are also within easy reach of Princesshay, so you can feel glamourous wherever you shop!
- Introduce the kids to Diggerland
Diggerland is a great place for boys and girls alike offering the Ultimate Adventure Theme Park Experience for all the family. There are indoor and our door play areas featuring rides and more. Visiting Diggerland puts you in the perfect spot to spend a few hours at Coldharbour Mill Working Wool Museum, this is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK and provides an insight into the how industry has changed over the years. There are plenty of accommodation options in this part of Devon for anyone wanting to make a bit of a holiday out of their trip. The Loft Apartment at The Old Kennels is a cosy apartment that can sleep up for four people with the illusion of being in the middle of nowhere. Alternatively, the Best Western Tiverton Hotel is also relatively central to many of Devon’s top attractions. It might not be the best place to go for bad weather, but the parents can’t miss out on a trip to Ducks Ditty Bar, Devon’s only Canal Barge Café Bar, which has some of the best beer in Devon.
