If you’re exploring Devon but you aren’t sure where to stop next, why not give Dawlish a try?
Dawlish is a small town right by the sea with an unspoilt beautiful stream running through the centre and is home to a variety of water birds, including black swans, you can while away the hours watching them float up and down the stream and enjoy refreshments form one of the many cafes to be found in town.
If you’re in the mood to combine a little relaxing with some shopping, Dawlish is a great place to stop while in Devon. The town centre boasts a large beautiful lawn and there are a selection of independent stores overlooking it, so you can enjoy the greenery while window shopping, or pop in for a unique gift from your holiday at a leisurely pace, stopping to rest in the gardens as you go.
At the end of town is the seafront, on one side you’ll find a cove where you can sit and watch people sailing or watch the trains chugging along the coastal track.
Taking the coastal path will link you with Teignmouth or Dawlish Warren, where you’ll find a Blue Flag Beach, perfect for taking a rest after your walk. While you’re here, you can explore the nature reserve where you can spend a few hours trying to spot all the local wildlife, or if you like, continue along the path to pick up a ferry to Exmouth.
If you’re more into the exploring a new town and having a bit of fun aspect of holidaying in Devon rather than wondering around coastal paths, you’re in luck. Dawlish Town is full of interesting shops and cafes and Dawlish Warren has pubs, play areas and more to keep the children entertained. At certain times of year, you can ride the steam train along the coastal path, giving you fabulous views over the sea and of course, there are usually events being held in the green areas to keep you and the little ones amused.
Dawlish isn’t just good for a day trip, you’ll find plenty of caravan and holiday parks, as well as hotels and b&b's in and around the area.
