Devon is a popular destination and many people enjoy spending their whole summers here, but if you can’t get away for that long, there is still plenty you can do in a weekend, here are a few options for you if you fancy spending a weekend at the coast.
If you want a weekend get away, take a quick look at our accommodation pages to see what special offers are on, especially for spur of the moment trips – many cottages and guest houses are privately owned so do drop their prices for last minute bookings. Once you’ve booked yourself somewhere to stay, you will want to make sure you can fit as much into your trip as possible. First things first, you’ll want to hit the beach. Luckily, Devon is full of beautiful beaches that are worth a visit whatever the weather. The beaches of north Devon are the best spots if you’re into water sports, whereas other regions have pockets of the Jurassic Coast, wonderful coastal paths, hidden coves and more, so you can fill a few hours exploring.
If you have an affinity for cities, you can plan a city weekend in Devon by tacking a trip to Exeter. The city is a fun and lively place to be, with lots of great bars, pubs and restaurants, as well as being full of history and having lots of great Instagram worthy spots. Exeter isn’t the only place with a rich history, you’ll find plenty of interesting historical sites across the region, from Agatha Christie’s home in Torquay, which is now a National Trust home, to the ruins in Dartmoor. Make sure to find time in your schedule to visit a grand manor house or go pony spotting on Dartmoor.
One absolute must when you’re in Devon is sampling a Devonshire Cream Tea, many hotels and tea rooms in the region offer cream tea on their menus, and some of our accommodation providers even welcome you to their properties with a complimentary cream tea! If you have food allergies, don’t worry, the cream tea is such a staple in Devon you’ll be able to find gluten and dairy free options!
