Ten reasons to love Devon
There are so many things that we love about Devon, but here are ten things that we think everyone should know about, so they’ll love Devon as much as we do!.jpg)
- The beaches, the beaches of North Devon are pretty spectacular, but actually, the whole of Devon’s coastline has to be seen to be believed, you’ll see pebble beaches, sandy beaches, sand dunes, cliffs and even parts of the Jurassic Coast. So, get yourself to the beach and take in the glorious sights!
Speaking of beaches…
- The coastal paths.
Devon has some of the most incredible coastal walks in the country, perfect for the hardened rambler or the occasional stroller, the coastal walks are incredible, with trails for you to follow or just pick up and drop off as you choose. Many of them are even dog friendly, meaning your pooch can join in on your exploring!
- Cream Tea
We don’t care what anyone says, the Devonshire Cream Tea is the original and the best. You’ll find cafes, hotels, restaurants and more all offering cream tea on the menu because we want you to experience how it is done properly.
- The long winding country roads.
It always feels like a proper adventure when you get to drive along country roads that stretch on forever, giving you a chance to absorb beautiful scenery.
- The shopping opportunities
Pretty landscapes aren’t for everyone, so if you prefer a bit of retail therapy rather than rest and relaxation, Devon is for you. Head to the city centre of Exeter, the quaint shops of Dartington or the malls at Trago Mills and scout out some deals.
- The Rivers
The River Dart, the River Torridge, the various estuaries… You’re never short of a riverside walk or two, plus there are plenty of waterside attractions for you to experience, plus Devon is home to the only remaining horse drawn barge, so be sure to visit the riverside areas.
- The ponies
There are wild ponies living on Dartmoor who are happily pottering around the place among tourists picnicking, walking or just photographing the scenery. They’re friendly enough and though some of them might be a bit photo shy, you’re bound to get at least one good selfie with them.
- The food
Devon is the home of fresh sea food, high quality local produce and a whole plethora of celebrity chefs ready for you to sample some of the most delightful food in the country. Go self-catering and get to try a different meal at a different site each night or stay at one of the hotels offering Michelin star dining and enjoy the taste explosion.
- The quirky streets
You’ll love wondering around Totnes and Clovelly, their streets are quirky and endlessly fascinating to walk around, full of independent businesses and beautifully quaint homes, plus cobbled streets, steep inclines and more that you’ll only find in Devon.
