Going to the beach is fun and all, but after a few hours of digging around in the sand, the kids might start getting a bit bored, don’t worry though, you can keep them amused without leaving the beach by letting them explore the rock pools in the areas.
Devon boasts a wonderful array of beaches from secluded cloves to endless sandy stretches, full of rockpools where you can go searching for mysterious sea creatures. Get hunting and see if you can find crabs, shrimp and other animals!
Here are five great beaches for you to visit for a spot of rockpooling and some holiday relaxation!
If you’re in Paignton, you can head to Goodrington Sands, this is a great beach to visit if you have kids because there are plenty of family friendly activities nearby for when they start to get a bit bored, plus one end of the beach is riddled with rockpools, so you can be sure that they’ll keep entertained all day.
Beer Beach is set in a lovely village where there is a wealth of rockpools for the little ones to play in, plus its very picturesque and there are some wonderful coastal walks in the area.
Hope Cove Beach – this is in the near the Salcombe area and is actually two beaches. They’re relaxing enough for the parents to take a moment and have rockpools and staggering views, so everyone is happy.
Within an area of outstanding natural beauty is Bantham Beach, which is a haven for surfers, families and locals because of its vast expanse of sand and good surfing conditions. It is also home to shallow rockpools, making it an ideal place to visit if you want to spend a whole day near the beach.
Right on the border in Exmoor you’ll find Sandy Bay, perfect for families, this is a privately-owned sandy beach that has plenty of facilities nearby as well as rockpools along the shore where you can find crabs.
