Climate change and the environment are two of 2018’s biggest topics, as you journey around Devon you’ll find various places no longer stocking plastic bags or straws, but it doesn’t end there, by choosing somewhere that promotes green tourism, you could help just by going on holiday!
There are plenty of places in Devon that have signed up to the idea of green tourism, from eco-friendly accommodation, restaurants, cafes and even the public transport providers are making it easier for people to use buses and trains rather than their cars!

If you head to the stunning Wolf Valley you’ll find Roadford Lake, a must-visit attraction that lets you immerse yourself in nature, the team at Roadford Lake promote eco-friendly activities and with their range of family-orientated events and attractions, you can have a great time and help save on your carbon footprint at the same time! There is even a camping site there so you can sleep in the beautiful surroundings too!

In the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is enough to inspire you to help the people of Devon with their conservation efforts, you’ll find Higher Wiscombe, a collection of beautiful cottages with some amazing views. They’ve won awards for their dedication to being environmentally friendly, so you know you can have a green holiday without having to scrimp on comfort and luxury. Right on their doorstep is The Donkey Sanctuary, where you can meet some friendly donkeys and learn more about the work they do to help these creatures.

If you’re looking for a cosy apartment where you can feel confident that you’ve chosen somewhere that is environmentally friendly, head to the Loft Apartment at the Old Kennels. It’s a cosy two bedroomed apartment that sleeps up to four people, so perfect for a family get away and even better, they have a whole host of awards celebrating their green efforts! The Old Kennels site also offer courses throughout the year in heritage arts, skills and traditional crafts, so you can learn more about how Britain’s original artists would have shown off their creativity. Plus they have a herd of alpacas. So, what’s not to love!

Once the winter season is over, head to Pennywell Farm, another award-winning attraction in Devon that works hard to be environmentally friendly. There are hundreds of friendly farm animals and a whole host of activities and events to keep you entertained for hours! Stop off in Totnes and Dartington on your journey to see a range of independent businesses that are encouraging retailers and shoppers alike to be more green. Grab a spot of lunch at the Green Table Café at Dartington where you can tuck into some sustainably sourced local produce.
