Charles Courtenay, the Earl of Devon, Luke Pollard MP and Allan Lambert, a Board Director to the Visit England board will be the keynote speakers at the sixth annual Plymouth Tourism and Visitor Economy Conference, sponsored by GWR, City College Plymouth, the National Marine Aquarium and the University of Plymouth on Thursday 22 November where the city’s plans for the Mayflower 400 anniversary year will be officially unveiled.
Being held at the National Marine Aquarium, the conference, titled ‘Mayflower 400: The Year and the Legacy’, will see a packed programme of high profile speakers who will unveil the exciting plans for Plymouth during 2020, and how the tourism and visitor economy can capitalise on the opportunities available.
Charles Courtenay, the Earl of Devon, and Patron of Mayflower 400 will be sharing insight into how Mayflower will commemorate 400 years of the special relationship between the UK and US, and what the anniversary will mean to us here in the UK and to the 25million American descendants.
Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, will discuss the importance of Mayflower 400 to Plymouth and the vision for the future. Following this, Allan Lambert will discuss the legacy of Mayflower and the key role that Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) play in developing tourism products for a global market.
Amanda Lumley, Executive Director of Destination Plymouth said: “The quality of speakers for this year’s conference is outstanding. To drive Plymouth’s Tourism Economy forward it’s essential we make the most of our opportunities, and Mayflower 400 presents an incredible opportunity for local businesses to capitalise on.
“The speakers we have this year will offer some of the best advice in the business on how to do that effectively. I encourage every business interested in this sector to come along, find out what’s happening for Mayflower 400 and how we’re working to create a legacy for Plymouth, and have the chance to network with other like-minded businesses.”
The conference will also feature a talk from Amanda Burns, Head of Marketing and Sales for Great Western Railway who will give insights into GWR’s new trains and activity and services for 2020 and future developments post 2020.
