29th October 2018
Categories: Visitor News
Many people are unaware that the UK is home to some of the darkest skies in Europe and provides spectacular views for stargazing. Take some time this autumn to give it a go, but don’t give up too soon. The eyes needs plenty of time to adjust to the darkness so it’s a good opportunity to turn all phones off and spend some time away from the screen.
Last minute UK holiday rental provider, Snaptrip, has compiled its top five locations to witness constellations. Their first recommendation for stargazing is:
Exmoor National Park, Devon
The Exmoor National Park in Devon is a great stargazing spot with 3,000 stunning stars and planets visible on clear nights. Exmoor National Park was also the first park to be granted the ‘International Dark Sky Reserve’ which means that light pollution levels are controlled, allowing for a tranquil stargazing session.
The other recommended sites are:
Galloway Forest Park, Scotland
Southdowns National Park, Hampshire
Kielder, Northumberland
Brecon Beacons, Wales
For places to stay near these spots, Snaptrip has a range of beautiful cottages and apartments available to book here: https://www.snaptrip.com/
