Devon tourism businesses were among the many winners at this year’s South West Tourism Excellence Awards. (2nd February 2017)
Held in the brand new Lansdown Suite of Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol, this year’s awards were announced alongside performances from LED jugglers ‘Feeding the Fish’ and an introductory presentation from adventurer Alastair Humphreys.
With 469 people booked, it was the biggest-ever regional gathering of South West tourism businesses, with 135 different awards presented following a rigorous judging process in which record 605 entries were considered.
Robin Barker of event organiser, Services for Tourism, said: “Excellence is elusive. It takes creativity, commitment, investment, and persistence to achieve. Standards have to be maintained for every guest, in all situations, at all hours of every day. Achieving excellence is one thing, maintaining it in a world of ever-rising expectations is an even greater challenge. So well done to all of this year’s winners – you are at the cutting edge of this region’s top industry and are genuine business icons.”
Among the Devon winners there were Gold accolades for Kawana Hall, The 25 Boutique B&B (pictured top); The Old Kennels, Devon, The Deer Park Country House Hotel, Longlands Devon, Darwin Beach Cove Limited, The Coach House by Michael Caines at Kentisbury Grange, Glazebrook House, Kentisbury Grange, Ilsington House Hotel, South View Lodges, National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth Armed Forces Day, and The Millbrook Inn.
And Silver accolades awarded to Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Plymouth Gin, Seaton Tramway, South Devon Railway, Virtual Jet Centre, Home Farm Café Bovey Tracey, Crealy Meadows Caravan and Camping Park, Bovey Castle, The Orchard Retreat, Hele Valley Holiday Park, The Milky Way Adventure Park, Unique Devon Tours, The Granary at Larkbeare Grange, Lewtrenchard Manor, Canonteign Falls, and Event Exeter
Bronze awards went to Go Ape Haldon, Reach Outdoors Limited, Higher Gitcombe Boutique B&B, The Cary Arms, Ladram bay Holiday Park, Mazzards Farm Holiday Cottages, Gidleigh Park, High Bullen Hotel Golf and Country Club, and TheMilkshed Devon
Outstanding contribution to tourism went to Graham Grose, owner of the Thurlestone Hotel.
