On three days each year our beautiful and diverse county is revealed in all its glory – at the Devon County Show, and in 2017 it’s on May 18, 19 and 20 at Westpoint, Exeter. Take a look at our overview below to find out why it’s one of the highlights of the Devon calendar – and find more Big Devon Events here.
As always, there will be literally thousands of animals – from exceptional livestock to dazzling Arab horses, as well as family ponies, canine superstars competing in the pedigree Dog Show, lofty alpacas and pigeons, rabbits and guinea pigs. Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex is the President of the 122nd Show, which will treat visitors to the best of food, farming and entertainment, all in one day.
When it comes to food and drink, the Show is going large! The Devon County Show’s fabulous Food & Drink Pavilion will be even bigger – and it will have a seating area where visitors can tuck into what they’ve just bought.
A host of acclaimed local chefs will be cooking up some culinary masterpieces in our demonstration theatre within the new-look Food and Drink marquee.
Devon’s very own super chef, Michael Caines, and Elly Wentworth, who was runner-up in the BBC’s Masterchef: The Professionals last year, will be in the kitchen.
Every day there will be non-stop entertainment and competitions in five rings around the showground including the monster trucks show – Big Pete and the Grim Reaper – and a thrilling range of equestrian competitions.
There will be lots of hands-on activities for children at The Devon County Show. At the Children’s Farm they’ll be able to get involved in the milking, experience hands-on baking, plant seeds and see the Sheep Show.
A tribute to the 11,000 men and women of Devon who lost their lives in the First World War made of hand-crafted poppies will be displayed in the craft and garden pavilion.
