The beautiful South Devon coastline has lots to offer visitors and explorers.
Teignmouth, Town Beach and River Beach
With a classic crescent of Georgian buildings, Teignmouth is a real hidden gem on the South Devon coast – both an historic port and classic seaside resort. With all the traditional attractions of a coastal holiday destination you won’t need to venture far to find a promenade, Victorian pier, lido, shops and parks. There are two distinct sides to Teignmouth: the sea front and the harbour side and it’s this beautiful contrast that makes the town a must visit destination!
Within a short walk from the town centre, Dawlish Town Beach is ideal to escape the hustle and bustle of the town. Take a boat trip around the bay and spot the dolphins or see if you can catch a mackerel for tea off the breakwater. Or venture to the River Beach on the estuary side of town where this charming beach takes you back to days gone by. Local fishermen mend nets, sand eels are caught, boats bob up and down with the tide and children splash and play. Watch the sun set magnificently over the River Teign and just relax, enjoy and savor the view.

Explore Dawlish and Dawlish Warren
If your idea of a perfect holiday is a pristine seaside resort in the true Victorian tradition of railway, buckets and spades and a promenade, then Dawlish is the answer. The town is a unique take on the traditional beach holiday, with a real community feel and all the traditional excitement of the sand and the sea. The long sandy beach, provides the perfect way to spend a summer’s day swimming, exploring rock pools or boating and the town has plenty of interesting shops and a pleasant park where you can see the famous black swans of Dawlish glide sedately along the river. But be careful – they can get very greedy if you take a few crusts of bread along for them!
The combination of beaches, mudflats, freshwater pools, herb-rich grasslands, woodland and reed beds make Dawlish Warren a must visit destination for thousands of wildfowl and wading birds who use the mudflats to feed, overwinter and visit on migration. Even amateur birders are likely to spot a species that will make the trip worthwhile and if you’re lucky you may see a short-eared Owl, a flock of Brent Geese, or maybe a Cirl Bunting. Rarities recorded at the site include the Broad-billed Sandpiper and Stone Curlew. A bird hide gives excellent views particularly either side of high tide and with facilities nearby it’s a great place to see and listen to our two legged friends.
