Devon is a dog owner’s paradise, with plenty of dog friendly hotels, beaches, walks, pubs and attractions to choose from – so when you come here on holiday you can bring the whole family.
It’s all about the great outdoors here in Devon, and many of our activities and attractions actively welcome dogs, meaning days out can include your pet too. Plus, there are lots of pet-friendly places to stay all over the county, and many go to great lengths to make dogs feel as welcome as their owners.
Take a look at some lovely dog friendly hotels in Devon, plus ideas for beaches to go to and idyllic doggy walking spots.
The Moorland Garden Hotel, Yelverton
Dogs might not be able to choose from the restaurant menu at The Moorland Garden Hotel (pictured above), but they’re made so welcome here that treats are provided in its Dartmoor Bar. It’s a great place to stop after a long day exploring nearby Dartmoor – and the hotel will also furnish you with maps of dog-friendly walks, and point you towards a dog-drying-off room on your return. There are eight dog friendly rooms on the ground floor of this beautifully decorated hotel, all with with garden views, and luxury dog beds, bowls and blankets are provided too. More

This lovely hotel on the romp-friendly South Hams is known for its adorable blonde-bombshell receptionist – Farley the yellow Labrador, who mans the reception desk. The hotel has plenty of areas designated as ‘canine compatible’, and is close to 2000 acres of National Trust grassland, the South West Coast Path and the dog friendly hotel beach, making it a pooch-perfect hotel choice. Port Light Hotel, Salcombe
Ok, it doesn’t get more pet-friendly (“All pets are welcome to stay at Port Light Hotel, especially dogs!” – so you could take your tortoise, your hampster …) than this. The Port Light Hotel recently won the ‘most pet friendly hotel in the UK’ award, and we can see why: pets can stay for free, and are welcome in all areas of the hotel; there’s a pet food fridge and an outside dog wash; there are even trays in every room for your pet’s dining crockery/food bowl. What’s more, a gate from the hotel garden leads directly onto National Trust fields where dogs can run free, leading to walks along the South West Coast Path, and most of the beaches in the surrounding area are dog friendly for most of the year. The Bedford Hotel, Tavistock
It’s a dog’s life … at this historic hotel in the market town of Tavistock they offer pets a hot breakfast of delicious local sausages – and if that doesn’t take your best friend’s fancy then they’ll order something special in from the local pet shop. Again, this hotel has Dartmoor and its miles of fantastic walks on its doorstep, beautiful riverside walks directly behind, and its own walled garden where your dog can run in a safe area off the lea,. And even though dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant here (in common with most pet-friendly hotels), they will set aside a table for you in the bar or lounge and offer the same restaurant menu. More
