Scavenger Hunts at Becky Falls
All week, Dartmoor
This half term beautiful Becky Falls (pictured above) is launching a new Scavenger Hunt aimed at helping children explore its beautiful woods and waterfalls. Just pick up an Explorer Backpack, set off on the trail and use the binoculars and magnifying glasses to find the items on the list. This top beauty spot and Dartmoor attraction also has (nearly) a hundred and one ways to encourage children to get rambling and enjoy their day there, including letterboxing (with free prizes) and hands-on animal shows. The Plymouth History Festival
All week, Plymouth
Taking place throughout the month, this celebrates the city’s unique heritage and features over a hundred different events. The line-up includes exhibitions, displays, guided tours, talks, music and entertainment as well as special events including the Smeaton’s Tower Treasure Hunt, Family History Day and Museums at Night 2014. Event highlights for half term week include: Portrait Consequences at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, May 28 10.30am – 1pm, free admission; and Setting Sail at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, May 29 10.30am – 12pm, £2.50 per child (book on 01752 304774). Geopark Festival
All week at various locations on the English Riviera
Torbay’s very special UNESCO-recognised Global Geopark celebrates its uniqueness with a range of events aimed at helping visitors enjoy, explore and experience all it has to offer. Brilliant events include: a fossil hunt, 10.30am-4pm, all week at Kents Cavern; Mice in the Abbey, A Geology Adventure!,10am-5pm, all week at Torre Abbey; free 1 1/2 hour Geopark kayaking taster sessions, 9.30am-4pm on May 27 at The Seashore Centre, Goodrington; Geology and Wildlife Walk at Berry Head, 10am-12pm on May 27; GeoFest Family Fun! 1pm-3pm on May 27 at Brixham Heritage Museum. Super Heroes Week at The Big Sheep
All week, Bideford
This award-winning North Devon farm attraction (Visit Devon’s Large Attraction of the Year for 2013/14) is doing super things this half term. It’ll be the home of the Batmobile, and visitors will be able to have a picture with this half size replica of the original car used in the movie, with a life size batman driving. There’s also free entry for any child dressed as a superhero. More
The Devon County Show
May 22-24, near Exeter
The greatest agricultural show on Earth (we think)! Animals, local food, heavy machinery, shows, displays, stalls … There’s more agri fun than you can shake a gert big stick at at The Devon County Show – everyone should go at least once. More
Exmouth Festival
May 23-30, Exmouth
Eight days of music, art and activities in Exmouth this year features fabulous live music, poetry, literature, arts and crafts, and hands-on workshops. There’s something for everyone and most of what’s on offer is free (though donations are gratefullt received of course)! Happy holidays! More

Boating fun at the IWA Grand Western 200

River Cottage Food Fair

A not-to-be-missed Devon foodie event – the first River Cottage Food Fair. Expect cookery demos, English wine tastings, evening music, foodie debates, falconry displays, pig racing, hula hooping, face painting and zorbing – in addition, of course, to local food to buy and try. Fireman Sam at The Milky Way Adventure Park
May 25, near Bideford
See Fireman Sam, local firefighters and a real fire engine and police car, and enjoy two special storytelling sessions to as this large all-weather North Devon adventure park. More
The Heart of Devon Festival
May 25, near Crediton
A popular free, family-friendly village festival, with live music, craft, plant & food stalls and a display of vintage vehicles. More
