Ooh – we’re getting excited now: the season is upon us, and the Christmas events have begun. In every corner of Devon there are choirs ready to sing, festive trains firing up, rinks waiting to be skated on, lights about to be switched and Santas donning their outfits, so read our guide to Christmas events in Devon 2014 to find out where and when.

See Plymouth’s Snow Globe
Plymouth’s snow globe is back! Climb inside the globe at Place de Brest and have your picture taken in your own magical scene. Entrance for up to four people is £10 which includes one free photo. More

Torquay Christmas Sparkle and Light Switch On 2014
This is a day of great free family entertainment in Torquay town centre. From 11am-6.30pm there’ll be street entertainers, live music, spectacular fireworks and a marching band before the Harbour Illumination and display which starts at 4.30pm. More

Christmas lights switch on in Barnstaple
Lots of Christmassy fun starting on The Square at 2pm, including a funfair on The Strand and the lights being switched on by platinum-selling music artists The Overtones at 5.55pm.

Thanksgiving and Christmas on Plymouth Harbour
Gather around the tree on Plymouth’s Harbour from 6pm for an evening of entertainment. The Barbican’s Christmas lights will be switched on just after 6pm followed by carol singing, readings, poems and a visit from Santa. More

Join Dartmoor’s Polar Express
This famous and magical story comes to life during a festive round-trip journey to the North Pole – from Okehampton. Set to the motion picture soundtrack, pyjama-clad passengers relive the magic of the story and see their favourite characters come to life as they’re whisked away aboard The Polar Express. During the journey, the conductor will punch tickets, jolly dancing chefs serve hot chocolate and cookies, and the ‘North Pole’, Santa boards the cosy train to greet the children and give a special sleigh bell to all those who believe … More

Visit magical Clovelly a Christmas, where the attractions will include a local brass band leading the procession down to the harbour, Christmas carols, hog roast, a visit from Father Christmas and a grand finale of fireworks to finish. More

Santa Specials on the Lyn Railway

Children’s Nativity in Plymouth
It’s all about the kids … Children from local primary schools and church groups will be bringing their nativity plays into Plymouth’s city centre. Watch them perform in the afternoon under the Big Screen on the Piazza. More
