Being surrounded as we are by beautiful sea and surf, it's natural to get the urge to go swimming while you're in Devon.
But where to do it? There's lots of choice. Most larger towns have a heated indoor pool, and plenty of hotels and holiday complexes have them too (some are open to non-residents).
Others love to go 'wild swimming' and take a dip in Devon's seas, rivers and lakes; it's a growing pastimes, and there are lots of groups and guidance (which we recommend you heed) out there for those wanting to take part. And somewhere in-between are Devon's sea pools and Lidos, sometimes free and sometimes privately-owned, which offer slightly more tame outdoor swimming but often with wonderful views. Take a look below and see which makes you want to dig out your cossie.

When people ask me that question I sometimes flippantly reply that it used to be called ‘going for a swim’ – but I guess it is more than that! All outdoor swimming can be included, from dipping in the local river, to training for a channel swim.
