About

The Tamar Trails is an all day attraction for families who love the outdoors. This a child friendly attraction where you can explore the network of woodland trails on bike or foot for free; try some outdoor activities or relax at the Tamar Trails Centre, Café and shop. A great place for family days out whether you are on holiday or live locally. Come and see what we have to offer at this hidden gem in the Tamar Valley on the Devon and Cornwall border.

The Tamar Trails  is the hub for outdoor activities in this unique and stunning area of Devon, which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and part of the Cornwall & West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. Located in the Tamar Valley, just across the river from Cornwall, the venue houses a cafe, shop, heritage centre, plus facilities for walking, running, mountain biking and outdoor activities perfect for group adventures and family days out in Devon or Cornwall.

Walking the Trails

There are over 25km of walking trails for you to explore from the Tamar Trails Centre. These hiking trails will lead you through the woods to breathtaking views of the Tamar valley and a landscape shaped by the area’s mining heritage.  Situated between Tavistock and Callington on the Devon Cornwall border, the walking trails are here for everyone to enjoy. Pick up a map from the centre.

Running the Trails

Take a run through the woods on the historic Tamar Trails. Run for as far as you want, on your own or part of a group. We have a specialist trail running shop on site, where you can get professional advice about shoes, training and local running events. Plus each Saturday we host a Parkrun for a free 5km social run.

Biking the Trails and Bike Hire

The Tamar Trails are 25 km of dedicated off-road mountain biking trails to entice families and committed bikers alike. This is a great venue for easy mountain biking in the Tamar Valley, attracting novices and committed mountain bikers from all over Devon and Cornwall.  Bike hire is available for £15 upwards for half a day.

The trails are free to use and open all year round, dawn till dusk. There is a parking fee of £2 for the day, and free after 6pm.

Cafe

Eat, drink and relax at the Beech Café.

Situated in a beauty spot high above the Tamar Valley with stunning views across the valley. The perfect spot to meet up with friends and enjoy a coffee or a fantastic lunch before exploring the trails or experiencing activities. The Beech café offers light lunches, afternoon tea and a range of cakes made on site or locally where ever possible. They serve the award winning Origin Coffee roasted in Cornwall for a superb barista experience.

Cafe Opening Times
