Create your own adventure at Roadford Lake
Between Okehampton and Launceston, PL16 0RL
Roadford Lake, situated in the beautiful surroundings of the Wolf Valley, is a must-visit attraction during your stay in Devon.
Your little adventurers will love exploring and discovering all of the fun things to do at this impressive lake, the largest inland water in the south west. Ditch the iPads, immerse yourself in nature and create lasting memories with the family. Den building, venturing through woodlands, hunting for mini-beasts and, of course, enjoying a well-deserved ice cream from the popular Roadford Café and Venue are bound to be a huge hit.
Activity Centre and Campsite
Head over to the Activity Centre and enjoy a family adventure like no other.
Explore the lake by yourself by hiring equipment under the watchful eye of South West Lakes’ safety team or take part in a ‘Have a Go’ instructor led session in kayaking, learn how to stand up paddleboard, spot wildlife from a canoe, hit the bullseye in a game of archery, face your fears and attempt the high ropes course, learn how to turn in a sail boat, relax and enjoy a spot of trout fishing. Why not extend your stay and enjoy a great night’s stay under canvas?
Roadford Lake is an AA graded three star campsite with a choice of electric and non-electric pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes as well as a luxury bell tent and convenience camping. Large and open grounds ensure that there is plenty of space to set up picnics and allow children to run and play freely. Have a barbeque (raised off the ground) or use the communal undercover barbecue area – enjoy stargazing and toasting marshmallows with the kids.
Play
Get your children learning and having fun on their next adventure by downloading South West Lake’s 101 things to do this summer booklet and activity sheets. Identify trees, track prints, discover different leaves or go on a bug hunt. Visit the children’s play area, located next to the café, or enjoy the plentiful open space for informal games.
Walking and Cycling
Embrace the outdoors and experience Roadford Lake by bike or foot. The network or footpaths and cycle tracks suit visitors of all ages and abilities. Don’t forget to bring the dog! We want our four-legged friends to enjoy this special place. All we ask is for you to keep your dog on a lead and out of the water.
Good Food
Visit the Roadford Café Lake Café and Venue, with a warm welcome all year round. Whether it’s a delicious cream tea or a light lunch from the specials board, Roadford will never disappoint. Locally sourced food, friendly staff and extraordinary lake views makes for an unforgettable visit. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a souvenir from the gift shop.
Wildlife
Roadford is home to an abundance of wildlife including otters, bats, dormice and the rare March Fritillary butterfly. A variety of birdlife can also be seen and, if you are lucky, you may even spot a Roe deer by the water’s edge.
