The historic Dartington Hall is an inspiring, 1200-acre cultural destination just outside the ancient market town of Totnes, with Grade 2* gardens and woodland walks, plus a year-long programme of craft courses, Barn Cinema screenings, live arts events and fantastic eateries.
It is a unique location easily accessible within driving reach of Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth, for those wanting to leave the car behind for their break, Totnes is served by a mainline station and is just 1.5 miles from our estate. Dartington Hall is a stunning Grade I listed heritage property set within a 1,200 acre private estate near the ancient market town of Totnes. 50 distinctive bedrooms located around a medieval 14th-century courtyard offer a superb mix of heritage and comfort where you can remove yourself from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
From The White Hart restaurant, The Green Table & Roundhouse cafes we serve a wide range of delicious, local, seasonal and sustainable dishes. We support local producers, some from our own estate, and offer only seasonal, locally sourced produce in our menus. With a range of options to suit all tastes and appetites and an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, our on-site cafes/restaurant offers something for everyone. The White Hart restaurant offers a delicious seasonal menu with a fine selection of local ales and wines. Open daily from midday until 11 pm. The Green Table Café is open daily from 9am – 6 pm serving fresh seasonal fare and exceptional cakes. The Roundhouse Café is open daily from 11am – 8pm serving a selection of hot drinks, warm soups through the winter, sandwiches & salads made on site, bottled beers, cakes and crisps.
There is easy access to over 800 acres of stunning, glorious Grade II* listed gardens, fabulous walks and newly restored 700 year old deer park.
Don’t miss our weekly gardens tours, every Wednesday, at 11am-12 noon from the Visitor Centre or a guided tour of our newly restored 700 year old deer park; every Friday, 11am-12 noon. Tours run from March to mid-October.
There is a wide film programme including independent, world and mainstream cinema, seven days a week at the 14th-century Barn cinema located within the grounds. This is an exciting time for Arts at Dartington. We have our Summer School just around the corner in August, which as well as bringing a lot of fabulous musicians together, means a month of concerts, with three performances most nights, including folk, jazz as well as classical.
We have all kinds of craft courses too, covering everything from beekeeping, printmaking to artisan baking.
From Exeter: From the M5, take the Plymouth (A38) road until the exit signposted to Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. Turn left onto the A384 and shortly after the Dartington village sign, turn left at Dartington Church and follow for 1 mile. The main car park is on the left. From Plymouth take the A38 up to the A385 turning, signposted to Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge.
By rail The nearest rail station is at Totnes (on the main Paddington – Penzance line), approximately 1½ miles from Dartington (approx. 35 min walk/10 min taxi ride). There is a taxi rank at Totnes Station. There is a footpath to Dartington directly from the station which travels alongside the River Dart for ¾ mile and meets with the Dartington drive; the walk is undulating and challenging for pushchairs.
