Devon isn’t just for those that like casual country walks and trips to the beach, it is a county full of fun attractions perfect for families, thrill seekers, the adventurous and those looking for a bit of culture – including arts and crafts, whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it in Devon.
For family attractions you can take your pick from a choice of theme parks with exhilarating rides and slides designed to thrill or get up close and personal with the cutest animals at one of the county’s many fun-packed farm attractions. If you prefer your animals a bit more wild, you’ll be spoilt for choice here, Devon boasts zoos, wildlife parks and the National Marine Aquarium, all of which offer the chance to learn more about beautiful exotic animals, as well as activities and events throughout the year giving you even more to do while there! Devon has a whole host of free things to do too, for anyone wanting to keep an eye on their budget.
If you’re someone who likes their history and wants to immerse themselves in the rich history of Devon, you’re in for a treat, there a loads of chances to visit historic sites and country estates, many of which are owned by the National Trust. You’ll be able to enjoy a glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous of bygone days in Devon's historic houses and gardens; there are certainly plenty to choose from, including the home of author, Agatha Christie! Plus, there’s a fascinating range of heritage attractions to visit, including the last castle built in England among others.
Of course, Devon boasts countless interesting and beautiful natural attractions, including England’s highest waterfall and the underground home of the oldest known human settlement in Britain. Make sure to take in all of the stunning natural scenery by jumping on a boat, train or tram and enjoy the landscape whilst travelling between attractions! You could even take a horse drawn barge, the Tiverton Canal Co. is home to one of the last of these such barges in Great Britain and is run as a Canal Living Heritage Visitor Attraction.
