Climbing

Climbing as an activity is a great way to keep in shape and is also a really exhilarating experience and a challenging, fun way to spend a few hours, so whether you are looking to build strength or are just looking for something different to do on your trip, visiting one of the climbing walls is a great choice.

Challenge yourself with wild climbing

An activity that is growing in popularity is climbing and Devon is a great place to unleash your inner Spider-Man and begin scaling great heights as it is not only home to a number of organisations that offer cliff and rock climbing activities, but also indoor climbing activity centres.

Devon has some of the best rock climbing opportunities in the country, the many cliffs along the coasts, as well as the mild weather makes it the ideal location to climb. You’d be right in thinking that it isn’t particularly mountainous, but you do have areas such as Dartmoor with rocky outcrops, Tors and the various coastal areas with all manner of cliffs to try out.
If it’s something you’ve always wanted to do but you don’t quite feel confident enough to don a helmet and start scaling a cliff like a pro, you could always give an indoor climbing wall a go first. Luckily, there are a number of sites across Devon offering climbing walls differing in sizes and difficulty. These indoor walls have soft floors and all the safety details you can think of, so you can climb without concern. If you are keen to get out into the wilderness, browse the many companies that have outdoor climbing sessions. You’ll be supervised by a fully qualified instructor, plus they will be able to give you all the safety equipment, such as ropes, gloves and more so you can enjoy yourself with complete peace of mind.

Learn from the best

Organisations offering climbing activities, whether inside or out, cater for a wide range of ages and abilities, so if you are an experienced climber looking for a new challenge or to get in some practise or whether you are a complete novice wanting to gain some experience and develop skills you’ll find something to suit you. In fact, many of the climbing walls in the region require no experience at all, their fully qualified instructors will be able to supervise and help, whatever your skill level.

Activity organisations with climbing facilities often have coaching sessions, as well as holding events such as hen/stag parties and birthday parties for all ages, so you can really choose a session that suits you and your needs. It’s also a great choice for businesses looking for Team Building Exercises, imagine spending most of your day in a suit and tie and then getting to spend some time re-enacting your favourite action film as the hero of the day!?

There are even some companies with mobile climbing walls so they can bring the wall to you! These sites are also family friendly and many of them have child friendly areas that are based on soft play centres, so even the youngest members of the family can join in.

Take a look at the climbing activities available in Devon below.
