While Devon is one of the warmest places in the UK, that doesn’t always mean that we see sunshine, but a bit of rain doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy your trip to Sidmouth. Here are a couple of suggestions of how you can enjoy yourself and avoid a deluge, all without confining yourself to your room.

Visit a museum

Sidmouth and the surrounding areas have a host of different museums to help you learn more about not only East Devon as a whole but also the Jurassic Coast. Sidmouth’s town museum has a wide range of exhibitions and there is also a toy museum where you can enjoy a touch of nostalgia. Another option is that you can visit some of the region’s stately homes where you can find out more about how the other side lived, Regency Sidmouth and of course, examine their many art exhibition.

Learn a new skill

Just because it is wet and windy doesn’t mean you need to be bored. There are plenty of new skills you can learn while in Sidmouth – why not take up some pottery and create something fun to take home with you? Or see what other arts and crafts are taking place at community events.

Go shopping

Sidmouth’s highstreet is delightful and is full of independent shops, cafes and tearooms as well as brand names we all recognise. The town has its own department store where you can shelter from the weather and pick up some amazing items at the same time and there is the quirky Libra Court area and plenty more to choose from.

Catch a show

With a retro cinema in town and a theatre, you’re never too far from some top notch entertainment. If the weather is against you, head to the box office and see what is showing. The cinema has been providing entertainment since the 1920s and with a full programme at the theatre, there is always something to see!
