If you’ve booked to stay in Sidmouth for a few days, you’ll already have a pretty full itinerary, but if you want to explore a few of the other towns and villages in the vicinity, then here are five places that can be easily accessed from Sidmouth!
This charming town is located right in the heart of the Jurassic Coast and is just a few miles from Sidmouth. The town has access to the South West Coast Path so you can easily have a few adventures along the coast, or spend some time watching the wildlife at the Seaton Wetlands. This is a town perfect for nature lovers!
Not only that but there are a whole host of attractions, many of which are family friendly that every one will enjoy!
Did you know that Exmouth is one of the prettiest and oldest seaside resorts in Devon? It is also known as the gateway to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, so you can be sure of beautiful scenery and stunning views as well as plenty of heritage attractions for the history buffs among you. Not only that, but Exmouth’s beach is one of the best loved in the region, it stretches across two miles and is perfect for relaxing, challenging yourself to some watersports and of course, building sandcastles.
Home to one of East Devon’s most popular literary festivals, Budleigh Salterton is just an 18 minute car journey from the centre of Sidmouth. The town is within the East Devon AONB, so you are surrounded by coast and beautiful countryside wherever you look. This is a great location for anyone who loves shopping, the high street features a wide choice of independent and speciality shops, as well as restaurants, cafes and pubs and there is even a cute brook that flows through the middle.
Beer is an ideal location for anyone looking for a day of activities, it is easy to lose a few hours just by wondering around the beach. As it is a working beach, you’re likely to spot the day’s catch being brought in on colourful little boats. Another place worth visiting while you’re in Beer is the Jubilee Gardens, above the beach, which were commissioned for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee and are a great spot for anyone to enjoy the view across the bay while indulging in a picnic!
Further along the coast over the border into Dorset is Lyme Regis, which is a great place to go if you’re travelling with children, particularly if they are into dinosaurs. The town is home to a world renowned museum full of fossils that have been discovered along the Jurassic Coast.
Will you be exploring the East Devon and Jurassic Coast on your next visit to Sidmouth?
