As the weather starts getting better and restrictions begin being lifted, here’s our top suggestions for great places for a picnic in Sidmouth.

For those of you wanting to dine al fresco in Sidmouth, there are loads of quiet and peaceful places for you to enjoy your picnic, like the ones below.

The Byes
Located between the Toll House in Sidmouth and the neighbouring village of Sidford, there are plenty of beautiful river side walks to be enjoyed here, as well as meadows and wild green areas, perfect for stopping for a picnic. You can easily get to the Byes from the centre of town, so you won’t need to worry about finding parking.

Blackmore Gardens

Located within the town and once belonging to Blackmore House, the gardens are a lovely tranquil place to hide away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. The gardens are regularly maintained and full of seasonal plants and an aromatic garden, offering a real sensory experience.

Whitecross Picnic Site

Found at the very end of the East Hill Strips, this area of woodland has some amazing views across East Devon and plenty of lovely walks to enjoy before or after your picnic. Either settle yourself down among the grass or make use of the benches that can be found near the car park.

Connaught Gardens

The jewel in Sidmouth’s crown, Connaught Gardens are above Jacobs Ladder beach and has plenty of space for sitting and enjoying the landscaped gardens while you eat. During the summer months, the town band takes over the bandstand entertaining everyone in the gardens and several of the festivals use the gardens as a venue making it the place to be.

Knapp Copse nature reserve

Part of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this site has everything from secluded valleys to cliff tops to large areas of heathland, giving you loads of options for places to stop and picnic.
