This year’s Science Festival will be going ahead with a few changes, rather than welcoming amateur and professional scientists from across the industry to the town, a virtual event will take place, allowing even more people to join in!

The annual science festival started as a weekend event in 2012 and since then has grown to a ten day event featuring free workshops and activities for all ages and abilities. Whether you are passionate about a certain scientific field or are new to the sciences and want to learn more, there is always something to pique your interest.

Every year, Sidmouth is filled with experts in their field coming to the town to talk or host activities that celebrate STEM subjects. The festival is organised to coincide with Ada Lovelace Day, which celebrates not only Ada’s legacy, but female scientists everywhere.

Much like the usual event, there is a packed programme full of talks and activities about a wide range of subjects including the Sidmouth Fatberg, engineering, survival, medicine and conservation. There will also be a Citizen Science project to join in with which will involve observing gull behaviour, two competitions, building rubber band cars and creating your own version of Jurassic Park.

This year’s event will run from Friday, 9th October until Sunday, 18th October, make sure to keep your eyes on the festival’s social media accounts for full details and check sidmouthsciencefestival.org for the latest on the upcoming festival and other events. To join in the event, register with Eventbrite for each individual talk or workshop, you will then receive a link to get involved via Zoom.
