Whatever the season, Sidmouth is a joy to visit all year around. The town, like the rest of Devon, is currently in Tier 2, which allows overnight stays providing you stay within your support bubble or household group and for eateries, shops and other attractions to open with limited capacity and curfews.

So, if you are in the mood for a festive break away and need a little convincing, here are five reasons why Sidmouth should be top of your list.

  1. You can get all your Christmas shopping!
Sidmouth’s high street is perfect for grabbing those last minute gifts, with its mix of brand names and independent stores, you can easily find something unique and helping local businesses brings Christmas cheer to everyone!

  2. All those festive treats
With the abundance of locally sourced produce available, Sidmouth is the place to be if you love festive flavours. From spiced cakes to roasts with all the trimmings, the eateries in the town have everything you could want from a Christmas meal out.
  3. Plenty of Victorian era hotels
It is generally acknowledged that Christmas as we know it is all thanks to the Victorians, specifically Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. In Sidmouth, the number of Victorian and Regency buildings allows you to have a truly nostalgic Christmas. Also, Queen Victoria lived in the town for a time and you can actually stay in her former home!
  4. Lots of attractions
Sidmouth and the surrounding area has plenty of fascinating attractions to keep you entertained as you wait for Santa to turn up and while they might have limited capacity at the moment, that doesn’t mean that they are scrimping on the Christmas cheer.
  5. The Boxing Day swim.
Whether it will actually go ahead this year and if it does, whether you want to get involved are irrelevant, this is truly a spectacle to behold and is just one of the many frivolities you can enjoy in Sidmouth at this time of year.

Please note, at time of writing, Sidmouth is under Tier 2 restrictions and this is being reviewed on a fortnightly basis as the situation progresses. Currently, travel is permitted between Tier 2 regions and hospitality and leisure are allowed to open. Please do not visit if you are coming from a Tier 3 area or if you are feeling unwell.
