Sidmouth itself is East Devon’s jewel in the crown and Sir John Betjeman saw it as a feast of visual delight. Regency and Victorian architecture combine with vibrant floral displays and spacious gardens to create an air of charm in which to relax and unwind. Dulcet tones from the bandstand at Connaught Gardens drift through the air towards the cricketers performing on a balmy afternoon. Evening strollers absorb the mood on the Regal Beach Esplanade stretching from the salty sea trawlers at the river mouth to the golden sands of Jacob’s Ladder beach. There are several excellent restaurants, tea rooms and pubs offering a range of menus including freshly caught fish and traditional cream teas. You may also enjoy browsing the unique, independent shops or visiting the Theatre or Cinema.
For the more energetic the annual Folk Festival provides an extravaganza of Arts and performances which are world renowned. Alternatively make use of the town’s superb facilities covering Tennis, Putting and Bowls or bathe at the indoor pool and safe, Blue Flag beaches. Whatever your needs on holiday, Sidmouth provides much to entertain the discerning visitor. Combined with the comfort and serenity of Dunscombe Manor it is the perfect Devon retreat.
