History of the Honiton Show

The first-ever Honiton Show took place in 1890 during the reign of Queen Victoria. It was held on Bramble Hill in Honiton, with Viscount Sidmouth presiding over events.

Following the First World War, the show moved to Dowell Street and then after WWII, the show began to include the judging of hunting hounds and several of the original classes disappeared because of rationing.

By the 1990s, the organising body became known as the Honiton and District Agricultural Association and celebrated the show’s centenary by becoming a limited company. The show that year was very special to commemorate the 100 year milestone, featuring around 290 trade stands.

Today, the event features over 400 stalls, a variety of competitions and several classes.
