Pubs

Sidmouth has a huge array of pubs and bars all with their own unique charm from those that are housed in the beautiful regency buildings that the town is known for to those with a more modern décor. There are establishments for night owls who like to party into the next day, those that want to enjoy live, local music, those that want to socialise, those that want somewhere suitable for families and many more. So whether you want to dance the night away with your pals over a couple of bottles of wine or whether you want to enjoy a quiz with your friends, you can do it all in Sidmouth’s pubs.

When it comes to pubs in Sidmouth and the surrounding Sid Valley, they are more than just somewhere to go for a quick drink or somewhere to unwind after a long day, the pubs here act as a community base, so whether you’re a local, a seasonal visitor, or you’re here for the first time, you can guarantee a warm, friendly welcome and the chance to take part in community games, such as quizzes and darts or to catch some live, local music and other performances.

Sample local drinks

Devon is becoming increasingly popular as a brewing and distilling hotspot, you might be familiar with the traditional ciders that come out of the west country, but the county is also well known for its beers, wines, gins and other spirits all of which are lovingly crafted within a few miles. The pubs in and around Sidmouth like to support our local producers, so they are the ideal place to stop off for quality, locally produced drinks. There are a host of west country ciders on tap and by the bottle as well as wines, ales, beers and gins too.

The micro climate in Devon and in particular the East Devon region means it is the ideal place for growing all the best ingredients for your favourite beverages, so make sure to ask what local drinks are on offer when you head to the bar. Many of the pubs in Sidmouth also offer food, so you can compliment your local drinks with some deliciously, locally sourced food!

As you might expect from such a popular seaside resort, there are a number of high street chains that can be found in the town alongside traditional, independent pubs giving you a real insight into what life is like in these small communities in Devon. Wherever you choose to base yourself, you can be sure that each establishment offers something different and has its own charm.

Family friendly pubs

As it is well known as a family friendly destination, many of Sidmouth’s pubs are happy to accept families with small children, especially during the day and into the early evening. You’ll find children’s play areas and children’s menus as well as big screens so you can keep up to date with the latest news from Sky and BT. Which, if you’re a sports fan who has opted for a stay somewhere without internet or a TV, you’ll likely be glad to know!

Sidmouth is a real hub of community and cultural activity throughout the year with the many events that take place in and around the town. The Folk Festival, Science Festival, Literature Festival and Regatta among others continue their festivities late into the night and many of the revellers head to one of the pubs and bars in the town to carry on the fun! Some of the pubs even act as hosts, particularly for events that require multiple venues, so keep an eye out for performances and workshops during your visit.

Want a few other options? Visit one of Sidmouth’s restaurants for top quality, local food and drink or stop off at one of the hotels with onsite dining experiences or find other food and drink establishments here.
