Named for the distance between Devon’s capital city and the stunning town of Sidmouth, you’ll find 14 Miles East in view of the promenade on Fore Street, one of Sidmouth’s popular shopping streets.
Located in what was once a large house named High Hall, 14 Miles East is an independent café and bar serving a wide range of food and drink which is locally sourced, sustainable and delicious from 8.30 am onwards. With an easy and relaxed atmosphere, 14 Miles East is the perfect venue, whether you’re meeting friends for a few drinks, are planning a meal for two, a family celebration or just want to stop for afternoon tea on a day trip. Whatever the occasion and whatever you’re in the mood for, you’ll find it here.
14 Miles East has a long history of food and drink having originally been established as Trumps Café in 1901 by Edwin Grove Trump – no relation to the former president as far as we know! It was later converted into the New Tavern before becoming part of Carina’s Nite Club and then eventually, 14 Miles East. We’ve been feeding the people of Sidmouth for over 100 years and hope to do so for another 100 at least.
Our relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes 14 miles East ideal for casual lunches, hurried bites or something more special and with the ever changing seasonal menu, there is always something new to try, no matter how many times you visit.
Because we are dedicated to serving only the freshest local produce, our menus change depending on the availability of certain ingredients, we endeavour to source as much of our ingredients, including drinks as possible. East Devon’s wide and varied landscape means there are plenty of delicious options, from fresh seafood caught on the Jurassic Coast that morning to locally reared meat and fruit and veg from the surrounding countryside. At 14 Miles East, we have a dedicated team of chefs who work hard to provide a varied menu to cater for just about every taste and dietary requirement you can think of, including vegan and gluten free options.
Breakfast is served from 8.30 – 11 am every day with a range of favourites including the ever popular Full English, with both a traditional and a veggie/vegan option, fresh fruit and home made muesli, American style pancakes and much more!
From 11 am until 3 pm we serve our lunch menu, with all day breakfast items, soups, steak, sea food and sandwiches among other options. Diners can also choose to enjoy our Tapas menu and select a variety of dishes to share between themselves.
On special occasions, 14 Miles East opens for evening meals, starting at 6pm. Tapas is also available in the evening, along with a varied selection of mains and starters, including the fresh catch of the day, moules mariniere and a variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free meals. For afters, you can choose from our list of home made desserts and ice cream varieties, with options for those with additional dietary requirements.
During the pandemic, we are offering a temporary take away service with Reheat at Home and Cook at Home options. These consist of a variety of our most popular dishes and desserts which can be ordered by phone or email for that day. The Takeaway menu, as well as sample menus for breakfast, lunch and evening meals can be found on our website, alongside details of our drink menu and regular desserts.
