Sam Spoons Takes a Bow With His First (and Last) Solo Exhibition
Martin Ash, a 76 year old artist achieves a life's ambition with his first solo exhibition: due to illness, it will also be his last. 'Kerb Art' runs at Tapeley Park, 14 – 18 October and is presented by White Moose gallery.
Tapeley Park, renowned for entertaining alternative thinking, is a fitting venue for a show which captures some of the mischievousness that has been a hallmark of much of Martin's work in an artistic career spanning more than 50 years.
Best known to many by his stage name, Sam Spoons, Martin was a member of experimental 1960s group, The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, which has been credited with inspiring the likes of Monty Python, Stephen Fry and Ade Edmonson. Since the Sixties he has been a member of numerous musical ensembles including Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band and Bill Posters Will Be Band.
