Children’s Events

North Devon’s seaside resorts are always popular with families, not just because of the abundance of top attractions and the lure of the beaches and outdoor trails, but also because of the events that are held all year around across the area.

Wherever you look, there are loads of activities, local events and fun things to do in North Devon with kids. Here are a few of our favourite family friendly events to give you a sneak peek of what is in store for you during your trip to North Devon!

Festivals and Trails

For an immersive activity that you can do at your own leisure, don’t miss Mortehoe’s annual Scarecrow Festival. Part festival and part trail, this event allows you to explore the village while also keeping yourself active. There’s a different theme every year with many of the local businesses taking part. Families are welcome to take part, so keep your eyes peeled for the scarecrows and crack the clues as you work your way around this idyllic village, just one mile from Woolacombe.

There are a number of festivals in North Devon which cater brilliantly for children throughout the year. One option is Pigstock, this event is super chilled and has something for everyone. Whilst the adults take in the eclectic mix of music, the kids can watch a show or make something amazing in one of the craft tents.
For the older children, head to Croyde over the summer, they will love Oceanfest with its adrenalin fuelled rides and chart-topping bands. This three day event celebrates the village’s watersport culture and features everything from surfing to live music to fresh local food.

Arts Events

If you have creative children who are interested in art, look out for events run by the Plough Arts Centre. These events are often aimed at children and are perfect for the whole family to join in with and many of them give you the chance to enjoy some of the most spectacular outdoor locations around North Devon.

You can find other arts and crafts events, including festivals, workshops and exhibitions here.

Wet weather events

We can’t always guarantee what the weather is going to do, which is why you’ll find a whole host of indoor events taking place in North Devon too. If the sun is feeling shy, visit Barnstaple library they have a range of weekly children’s activities and storytelling workshops in the summer months and with community cinemas, theatre performances and more, you’ll be sure to find an indoor event to keep you entertained until the sun makes an appearance.

Whatever time of year you choose to visit, you’ll find plenty to do for the whole family. Many of the local attractions run seasonal special events at certain times of year, like Easter, Halloween and Christmas as well as during the school holidays.
