You are here > Things to do > The Gnome Reserve & Wild Flower Garden
The Gnome Reserve and Wild Flower Garden was founded in 1979. It is 4 acres. Roughly half is in a beautiful old beechwood with stream running through, home to most of the gnomes, and the other half is The Wild Flower Trail which contains about 250 different species of wild flowers, herbs, grasses and ferns, which because of its diversity attracts insects, butterflies, birds/bird song. Some of the gnomes and pixies live there too. The whole 4 acres is a magical enchanted area which is very beautiful and encourages the Imagination. It’s for children and also the child within adults of all ages.
See Pottery Pixies being made / painted. Also on display a collection of antique gnomes in our Museum which now number 70+. Millers Collectibles included a lot of them in their 1996 edition.
Other facilities include toilets, disabled, baby changing, picnic areas and dogs on leads are welcome.
Over 70 times on TV since 1979
Some of our visitors comments from tripadvisor:-
A great fun, good value day out with young kids.
First came here with my Dad 30 years ago and now taking my own kids there.
Fantastic setting in paths through the trees, with thousands of different gnomes to keep the kids amused!
Really good value - well worth a visit!
Third visit over the last 31 years, and it is better than ever! A little piece of magic hidden away where adults can become children again. There are so many gnomes, and new ones obviously added every year with up to date themes and very amusing scenes. This is obviously a place which has been the love child of the owner for much of her life and which she still gets great pleasure from.
Makes a pleasant change to be able to while away a couple of hours, have a nice cream tea and not break the bank. This is not your average money grabbing commercialised setup and it is much better for it!
Even if you haven't got young kids (we took our 22 year old and she loved it!) this is still a nice place to visit, have a picture taken with the friendly little gnomes and go fairy hunting in the flower garden!
Couldn't ask for more! This place made a cloudy wet miserable day perfect. It's the best few quid I have ever spent and the kiddies loved it, and the adults too. It's proper home grown fun at its best!
Our 3rd visit here, its unspoilt and Un commercialised. Even great on a rainy day. They also do the best cream tea in Devon. Choose a hat and make like a gnome! Test your observations with the wildflower trail. Always top of out Devon list.
Perfect return visit five years later
Absolutely loved our return visit to the Gnome Reserve.
We all really loved seeing the gnomes and fishing for our lottery numbers. The trail was wonderful and the cup of the tea in the sunny garden was perfect.
The best part was the really lovely lady who greeted us. She was an absolute delight and was pleased to hear we were return visitors. We bought one of her fairy pictures and she seemed genuinely interested to know where it was going to end up.
A visit here is well worth every penny (although the prices are still so low) and I just wish that we lived nearer.
Highly recommend a visit here.
Myself and my boyfriend visited the gnome reserve. I was very excited as it looked soo quirky but think my boyfriend had reservations. We both enjoyed it soo much it was fun and the lady who owns it was lovely and added so much to the experience. We smiled from beginning to end. We also visited the wild flower garden and was given a quiz (optional)it would also be excellent for children as it made you look more and learn more, but also fun. The price was just right and there is food available which was very reasonable. Still makes me smile when thinking about our visit and can not recommend highly enough, it was such a nice experience you can loose yourself and forget you are in the real world.
