Action-packed holidays galore with North Devon’s holiday parks

19th June 2021

Categories: Visitor News

If you love comfortable accommodation, endless entertainment, onsite facilities and easy access to a whole host of popular resorts and attractions, then a stay in one of North Devon’s holiday parks would be perfect for you.

Holiday parks are hugely popular with families, groups and couples alike because of the abundance of activities and facilities on offer, plus the huge amount of child friendly accommodation and food options. There are parks with a range of onsite eateries, so you can easily cater for everyone in your family!

We’ve put together some of the region’s top holiday parks to give you an idea of what is available in the North Devon region – so read on to find the perfect holiday for you!

For those of you who want a park near the beach, Parklife Resort’s Watermouth Lodges near Ilfracombe is on an elevated position about Watermouth Harbour and nestled in mature woodland, the resort offers stunning sea views framed by trees and greenery.  Both Watermouth Harbour and Broadsands Beach are a short walk from the resort and there is easy access to the South West Coast Path and the Tarka Trail, so you can explore the wider North Devon area without having to get in the car!
The resort has several woodland trails if you like being outdoors and there is also an outdoor multi sports court, indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools and indoor and outdoor children’s play areas. The onsite Sea Terrace Bar and Restaurant has amazing views of the Bristol Channel and features a menu made up of amazing local produce.

Just minutes from Ilfracombe’s harbour, set at the highest point in the town is the Ilfracombe Holiday Park, where you have amazing views of the sea and the town. The site stretches over 13 acres and there are several accommodation options, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs. The onsite pool and the garden are available for guest’s use, so you can relax after a day out exploring the area.

Another option in the Ilfracombe area is Sandaway Beach Holiday Park, which has incredible sea views and its own private each, Mermaid’s Cove, which is perfect for rock pooling. This park is set on the edge of Combe Martin, just a stone’s throw from Ilfracombe and only 10 minutes from Lynton and Lynmouth, giving you chance to explore Exmoor and the Valley of the Rocks, as well as the Victorian cliff railway.
One of the big draws of the North Devon coast is the perfect surfing environment, which is why Sandaway Beach Holiday Park has teamed up with a local kayaking company, making it even easier for you to take to the waves!

A little further along the coast you’ll find Braddicks Holiday Centre near Westward Ho! Set alongside an award winning beach and within easy access of rolling countryside, bustling towns and of course, those incredible beaches, this is a great location for anyone who wants an adventure holiday. Not only is there the watersports and coastal pathways, but the site itself has a host of activities, including the Kid’s Club and the Entertainment Centre. The site’s Pier House Seafront Bar and Bistro is on hand should you need any refreshments and an amazing view of Bideford Bay to accompany your dinner. The accommodation on offer is spacious and fully equipped, plus there are dog friendly options too!

If you want an accommodation with so much to do onsite you don’t have to worry too much about travelling around, take a look at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park. There is a beach on its doorstep, spectacular sea views and a superb selection of activities and entertainment. With everything from health treatments and spa sessions to a Segway safari, water fun and the host of sports activities and crafts available, there really is something for everyone here.

Another option in the area is Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park is specifically marketed at families, they have been welcoming families for over 30 years and have something for everyone, whatever their age! The site is ideal for anyone wanting a traditional family holiday where you can make memories for life.

Alternatively, Parkdean Resorts have sites in North Devon, including Bideford Bay where you’ll find a range of self catering accommodation to suit every budget in a gorgeous hill top location. The park loads of facilities and entertainment options as well as two eateries offering take aways and sit in meals. The kids will love the two clubs and the adventure playground as well as the indoor soft play area, in case the weather turns against you. There is free WiFi in certain properties too, so if rain does stop play, you can amuse yourselves with streaming. Ruda Holiday Park  is another of their parks located in Croyde, the region’s premier surfing beach. Croyde Bay is one of the UK’s most beautiful beaches and the picturesque village is within easy reach of the park. There are lots of local attractions for you to discover as well as plenty of on park facilities to keep you and the family amused. If the idea of surfing appeals to you, there are lessons available or if you prefer a more calm water sport, there is a fishing pond!

Speaking of Croyde, there is Croyde Bay Holiday Resort nearby too. This resort is nestled behind the sand dunes right on the beach and there is even private access to the beach itself. The village with its surf shops and friendly pubs and tea rooms is just a short walk away, as is the National Trust managed Baggy Point. During peak seasons, there is regular entertainment, with facilities and activities available all year around. The onsite surf school is run by former European Champions, so if you are up for the challenge of learning a new skill or brushing up on old ones while on holiday, this is the resort for you!

A quiet and secluded option is the Combe Martin Beach Holiday Park. The quiet park is set in a valley with beautiful sea views wherever you are onsite. There are plenty of peaceful walking routes for you to enjoy, as well as the outdoor heated pool which overlooks the ocean. The park has its own private beach, Newberry Beach, where you can relax in the sun and should you fancy venturing out for an adventure or two, Combe Martin is close by and full of pubs, restaurants and attractions perfect for the whole family.

Image: Tarka Holiday Park

If you’re someone who enjoys a more rural setting and something quiet where you can relax, Tarka Holiday Park is located along the famous Tarka Trail and is just five miles from the centre of Barnstaple – North Devon’s largest town. The site doesn’t have a clubhouse or swimming pool like others in the region, instead focusing on its location and the beautiful natural setting. If you like the idea of being somewhere quiet but with the option to explore and enjoy the many activities that the region offers, this is the par for you, Tarka Holiday Park is near the golden beaches of Saunton, Croyde, Putsborough, Woolacombe and Instow and of course, there are lots of things to see and do in Barnstaple.

Of course, these are just a selection of the amazing holiday parks on offer in the region, you can find more here.
