Things to Do in North Devon this March

We can barely believe that we’ve already made it through to March. Then again, with so many activities running throughout North Devon, it’s no surprise that the time has flown by.

February was a busy month, and it’s looking like the next few weeks will be no different. We’ve got entertainment galore, and no matter your age or interest, we’re sure you’ll find something below to get excited for.

Week Commencing 25th February

Before we get stuck in, it’s worth mentioning a couple of the events taking place at the tail-end of the previous week.

For the ladies out there, the Tides Inn are offering a Ladies Night for £7 per person on the 1st.. Your ticket includes a glass of fizz and a buffet meal, and the evening is an opportunity to showcase the local craft talent, as ladies (and gents) will have tables set up with items to peruse and purchase.

On the 2nd, head over to the Red Barn in Woolacombe for their Big Breakfast. Not only will it be totally delicious, but all proceeds go towards the North Devon Hospice, a really invaluable charity for the local area. Head over to Umberleigh that evening to take part in the Murder Mystery night at the Highbullen Hotel. The theme is ‘Body in the Bunker’ - sounds ominous, but should also be a lot of fun!

The Red Barn will also be hosting live music every weekend throughout March, starting on Friday the 1st with Maybe Naked.

Week Commencing 4th March

If you haven’t already caught Michael Storrs’ Khnum at the White Moose, now is your last chance before it finishes up on the 9th.

On Shrove Tuesday - the 5th of March - Clovelly will be hosting their annual Lentsherd event. An intriguing tradition that has been held for centuries, the local children chase ‘evil spirits’ away from the harbour and into the sea with a trail of clattering cans. Children from all over are welcome to attend and join in the celebrations, so do bring yours down.

March 9th sees the start of British Science Week, and Barnstaple Library are hosting a free event especially for little girls who love art and science with plenty of hands-on, creative activities. The girl-powered Artineers event is sure to be a hit.

If you were lucky enough to get engaged during the romantic Valentine’s period, don’t miss out on the Big North Devon Wedding Show. Hosted by the Big Sheep, you’ll see a showcase from Devon and Cornwall’s finest wedding exhibitors and suppliers

Week Commencing 11th March

At the White Moose, a brand new must-see exhibition will open on the 14th for the rest of the month. POP: Psychedelia and Beyond is a showcase of John Hurford’s early Psychedelia work from the mid 60s, a period which was near taken over by the Psychedelia movement.

If outdoorsy art is more your cup of tea, Rosemoor Gardens are hosting a Spring Flower Festival on the 16th and 17th. The festival will feature some of the most exquisite work from competitors all over the UK. Competitions are free to enter, so get signed up now if you’d like to take part.

Week Commencing 18th March

Speaking of Rosemoor, don’t miss out on an opportunity to view the beautiful gardens for free. The Community Free Day takes place on the 19th of March, and is the ideal opportunity to view the Spring blooms in all of their glory.

It’s going to be a good week for live music too, with the Correspondents taking over the Factory in Barnstaple on Friday the 22nd. One of the most exciting live acts in the UK right now, this is a show you won’t want to miss. And if that’s not enough, the next day will see the South play the very same venue - it’s going to be a good weekend, that’s for sure.

Week Commencing 25th March

Featuring pro surfer Andrew Cotton, Devon’s premium party band Majestic Blue, and a delicious two-course meal with a selection of curries and a dessert, Croyde Bay Holiday Park’s Surf Ball is bound to get you feeling excited for the summer. In aid of the North Devon hospice, there will be dancing and drinking, as well as a charity auction and raffle. Tickets are sure to sell quickly, so get yours soon.

Mother’s Day is an important day in the calendar for showing the special ladies in your life some recognition, so what better way to do it than with a North Devon day out? Mums travel free on Lynton and Barnstaple Railway on the 31st, and can also expect free entry to the Big Sheep for the perfect family day out.

The Big Sheep will also be hosting a charity Fight Night on the 30th. With all proceeds going to a fantastic cause - Cardiac Risk in the Young - there will be a variety of fights to watch and other entertainment to enjoy.

Whew, we’re worn out just thinking about the amount of activities we’ll be getting up to - but it’ll be well worth it. Let us know if you’re tempted by any of these, or if you’ve got any plans for anything else that’s exciting. You can find us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
