What’s on in North Devon this February Half Term

You’ve done it - you’ve survived the first half of the new school term! Now the only question is this: how will you conquer a whole week with the kids back at home?

Have no fear. North Devon is a haven for families and children, with plenty of exciting activities to suit all ages and interests. Keep reading to discover our handy guide to what’s on in North Devon this half term holiday.

As always, North Devon’s family-friendly attractions will serve as the perfect destination for a day out with the kids. The Milky Way will be open between 10am and 5pm daily, ready for alien-themed adventures, roller coasters and rides.

For the animal lovers out there, head over to Clovelly Village and meet its resident donkeys, or discover the marine world of Ilfracombe Aquarium, which reopens after winter refurbishments on the 16th - just in time!

Another firm favourite, the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, will also be reopening for the half term week, between 10am and 5pm daily and will be offering all of its usual exciting wildlife attractions.

The Big Sheep, another one of North Devon’s family favourites, will be hosting an exciting and educational event to coincide with lambing season. Lambing Live allows you to be one of the first to meet the new baby lambs, and will host a series of 6 exciting live shows:

  • Lamb Feeding

  • The Sheep Show

  • The Shearing Show

  • The Milking Show

  • The Sheep Race

  • And the Beer Show

On top of that, the park’s usual rides, shows and other attractions will be on offer for special low prices during the half term season.

The Lynton and Barnstaple Steam Train celebrates a hefty anniversary, so it will be opening again on February 17th to run for the duration of half term promising education, excitement and of course, incredible North Devon views.

Arlington Court will be opening on the 16th, just in time to get in on the action. With a mixture of indoor and outdoor fun, this is the perfect opportunity to get creative with the family.

Sign up to the photography trail, both indoors and outdoors, to explore the venue through a lens by comparing the old and new. Alternatively, join local artist Deborah Hastings in designing marvelous creations from recycled scraps of material, or drop in for a family craft session.

Fancy something a bit outdoorsy? Join the garden team in planting flowers and take home your own pots to care for. Rosemoor Gardens is another outdoor favourite in North Devon, and will be going all out this half term with opportunities for the family to get connected to nature.

Build a Mini Bug Hotel to help wildlife, create an Ego Bug Pet, paint pebbles or attend Glenn Martin’s Eco Sculpture workshop to get hands-on and crafty with the children. You can even meet Exmoor Zoo’s famous Eco Hero, Steve Eddy, and meet his collection of wild creatures - an experience that’ll be sure to thrill the kids and get them feeling passionate about the outside world.

For an outdoorsy day that’ll truly benefit the community, the National Trust are hosting a Family Volunteering Day in Mortehoe on the 21st. Help the rangers out with the Horse bash’n’burn, and in return enjoy some marshmallows over the fire.
