THE FIVE MOST ROMANTIC NORTH DEVON LOCATIONS – AS VOTED BY YOU

4th February 2018

Categories: Visitor News

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we wanted to shine the spotlight on some of the most romantic North Devon locations.

But, rather than being all preachy and telling you where we think the loveliest locations are, we asked you to tell us your favourite spots!

We’ve put a few of our suggestions at the end, too – but here are the places you thought were North Devon’s most romantic…

WOOLACOMBE:

Susan Banner wrote to us on Facebook and said that the most romantic place for her was Woolacombe, “sat right above the beach at the highest point with hubby a bottle of wine watching the amazing sunset”.
It’s a bit of a tradition for Susan and her husband, who first enjoyed this lovely vista on their honeymoon 43 years ago!
“It still never fails to amaze us,” she added.

A WALK FROM MORTEHOE TO WOOLACOMBE:

Lilian Morgan’s suggestion was the lovely walk between the two coastal locations “as the sun is setting, such breathtaking colours of the sky”.
Her top tip was to enjoy a “superb evening meal with a glass of wine or two”, before a stroll back to Woolacombe. She suggested The Chichester Arms for an evening meal, while Fee’s was her top tip for a daytime coffee.

CLOVELLY:

Julie Harte described the lovely cliffside village of Clovelly as having “timeless beauty” – and of course, we agree!
Her answer when we asked what her favourite thing was? “Everything!” Quite right, Julie!

CROW POINT:

“On the beach at Crow Point where the pebbles are heart-shaped,” was the suggestion from Gaynor Trafford.
It’s a lovely spot to enjoy a walk, while the shipwreck there also allows for some rather alluring photo opportunities. Enjoy a roast at the Williams Arms near Braunton afterwards to warm back up.

LYNMOUTH:

Steven Sean Severn was adamant about Lynmouth being North Devon’s most romantic location! “What is there not to like?” he asked, before saying that the village’s cafés and pubs made it a fantastic place to visit with a loved one. Why not enjoy a ride on the Victorian cliff railway while you’re there?! You can’t get more romantic than that.

Here are some of our suggestions for North Devon’s most romantic places…

  • A walk along Instow beach before a bite to eat in one of the village’s many fine eateries
  • A trip to South Molton on a Thursday or Sunday, where a fascinating marketplace and dozens of wonderful independent shops await you
  • Codden Hill, with viewpoints looking out over pretty much the whole of North Devon!
  • Westward Ho! arcades – win your loved one a teddy!!
  • The Tarka Trail, where you can choose to foray along any number of stretches – we suggest either Barnstaple-Braunton (stopping at the Braunton Inn or the Waterside Cafe for a nibble), or Barnstaple-Bideford (stopping at Fremington Quay Cafe or in Instow).
  • Eggesford Forest, where miles of beautiful forest trails await you – and you can even take your dog along!

Have we missed your favourite place? Why not tell us over on our Facebook page!
